Just been reading some great anecdotes about Tony Hateley,Mark's Dad and a former player, albeit briefly, for us. Tommy Docherty said of Tony while he was managing him at Chelsea 'His passing is labelled 'To whom it may concern' and 'He can trap a ball further than I can kick it!' There is also a great story of how during his one season stint at us Bob Paisley, then Assistant to Shanks, wasn't a fan and constantly called for him to be subbed but Shanks wouldn't listen. On one particular occasion when Paisley was calling for him to be subbed and Shanks ignored him,Hateley went down injured and was taken off on a stretcher by Paisley and he had to be subbed. Shanks asked Bob later if Hateley was injured and Paisley said 'No,I taped both of his legs to the stretcher so you wouldn't send him back on!'
