This thread is starting to make me think that films took a bit of a nose dive in quality some time around 2000

I've noticed Netflix has started buying cinema's.

They've contributed to breaking the industry, now they want to exploit it, so maybe we'll see an upturn in people going to the cinema as a result.

The industry is just about money now.  They get that by doing remakes & Superhero films.

Films like Shawshank, on modest budgets are too bigger risks with people not going tot he cinema as much.  They guarantee a big return on a Superhero one or a remake (even if it is shit).

Sad times.

I agree to a point but without the huge profits from the superhero films and other summer blockbusters you would never see some of the smaller films getting made. Nobody would take a risk these days without the slush fund that the big release make

This draft contains two of only three films that I have sacked off at the pictures and walked out. The Matrix (not my thing at all) and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (replied to a text, ended up exchanging a few, lost the thread of what was going on and thought, “Balls, I can’t be arsed with this”.

I loved Crouching Tiger, but i have been a fan of Asian cinema for years

Not watched many over the past few years but when Hong Kong Legends was a bit thing just after DVDs became popular i was buying loads of them. I got rid of all my DVD a while back when i was moving as i didn't have the space. I will have to get them again, have loads of DVD but just don't keep the cases anymore, they just go in massive wallets as its easier and i can keep them in my locker at work to watch on my night shifts
