So why are you only counting Gerrard from 2010? You take Ronaldo from before?

Because I have not seen prime Gerrard in a match, whereas I've seen pretty much Ronaldo's entire prime at Real Madrid. I have seen his best first hand, I have not seen Gerrard's.

You don’t think much of our greatest player from 2010 onwards obviously. No disrespect but are you only judging from 2010 and  players you have seen?

What are your thoughts on our players of yesteryear?

Yes, only judging the players I have seen which is from 2010-present.

Truth be told, in regards to Gerrard you are right that I have never been the biggest fan because I saw him in a period of his career where he became a luxury player for the most part. It's unfair in regards to what he did overall for the club, but that's how I view him. I don't have all these positive memories of him.

And I respect the history of the club, but have no opinion on most of our greatest former players which is why I rarely contribute to the topics in which they are mentioned. Couldn't tell you a single thing about Dalglish or Souness or Hansen, etc. as players, although I have tried to learn who most were. Even Torres or Owen, whilst I know how good they were, don't inspire much in me, positive or negative. My favourite ex-player from that period of time is probably Xabi because he was just class, whether at Liverpool or at his other clubs after.

Why have I been negged for this? VD and Tony, if you believe that 2010-2014 Gerrard was better than Kante was for Leicester and Chelsea and Yaya for City during that time, you're out of your minds.

I negged you because the thread title is “All time Prem 11”. If you watch the video in the opening post, they are selecting players based on what they did in the Premier League, not what they did elsewhere, before or after. I appreciate you have only been watching the Premier League regularly since 2010, but I suggest you watch some YouTube videos of older stuff.

With regard to Dalglish, Souness and Hansen, if I were you, I’d hot foot it to YouTube and/or buy some dvds of our European Cup finals, etc., as you’re missing a treat.

Was a critic of Gerrard's latter years here but seeing how much we miss someone like Oxlade-Chamberlain, essentially an inferior version of Gerrard, has reminded me of what a ridiculous talent he was at his peak.

If you add goals, assists, urgency, and tenacity to Pogba then you’d get Steven Gerrard.

Agreed, but Gerrard at his best was clearly better than Xabi at his best.

I would disagree as both were equally brilliant but were slightly different players. Alonso left us and played at a higher level so is in no way inferior to Gerrard. If you were talking about 'the PL ' then you have a fair point but no way would I say either was better than the other throughout their career. Both were supreme players.

Not even limiting to the PL, at no point in his career did Xabi ever reach Gerrard’s best IMO.

Multiple Champions Leagues,La Liga titles and holding his own at both Real and Bayern as a veteran would indicate a resounding yes. As much as I hate to say it but as a club we've been a bit of an irrelevance for most of the last 10 years on the trophy front. Its silly to try to demean one to big up the other because, as I said previously, both were magnificent players and there is no more than a cigarette paper between either of them in ability level.

I’m not arguing that Liverpool have been as good as those clubs because that would be silly. Saying Gerrard was a better player than Alonso hardly ‘demeans’ the Spaniard either. I’ve always been a big fan of his too.
