Has there been a British movie in the last 18 years that so expertly dealt with mental health issues, mass media as a corrosive influence, satire and our country's almost unhealthy obsession with Sports and alcohol?

Watched it a few weeks ago. It's hilarious and you can see it was created by people who understand football and how dumb its media coverage can be. The reviews aren't that good which is surprising but it's really well made.

Agreed. It's wildly underrated.

 

Even if you brush past the fact that it is hilarious, it's a really good study on how difficult/impossible the job of being a football manager is, particularly when you have the entire nation in your back. Bassett loses his marriage and ends up on anti-dèpressants, because of the job.

Its a parody of the Graham Taylor ‘An Impossible Job’ documentary done in 92/93. Both are brilliant.

Hilarious film and one of the best British comedies ever made. I was crying with laughter when I went to the pictures to watch it at the time. Not surprising it didn't get the good reviews it deserved because it took the piss out of the media big time and well deserved too.
