Has there been a British movie in the last 18 years that so expertly dealt with mental health issues, mass media as a corrosive influence, satire and our country's almost unhealthy obsession with Sports and alcohol?

Reporter: Mike, it was the worst game of football I've seen in my life.

Bassett: Oh, come on! What about the game we played against the Belgium's 6 months ago?

Reporter: Mike, both the strikers were marked out of the game, there was no width and you had nobody running from deep. What do you say to that?

Bassett: in some aspects that is a very fair comment, but in others, no I totally disagree.

Reporter: Mike, what about fitness?  Macca looked knackered after 20 minutes.

Bassett: Yes, but what a 20 minutes it was.

Watched it a few weeks ago. It's hilarious and you can see it was created by people who understand football and how dumb its media coverage can be. The reviews aren't that good which is surprising but it's really well made.

Agreed. It's wildly underrated.

Even if you brush past the fact that it is hilarious, it's a really good study on how difficult/impossible the job of being a football manager is, particularly when you have the entire nation in your back. Bassett loses his marriage and ends up on anti-dèpressants, because of the job.
