Anyone been to Budapest?

It's great. Good food and beer, very reasonably priced; the ruin bars are good for a night out. Incredibly beautiful, with lots to see and a lot of history. Some of that history is unsavoury but well presented (House of Terror), some is plain to see (bullet marks on walls) and some sobering (the shoes by the Danube). The spas are worth a visit, the zoo is a sad place.

I'm not one for revisiting cities but I'd go back there.

Go. Last time we were there we dined like royalty in some of its finest restaurants for about £30-40. Food was decent but not knockout. Good hearty fare generally served with gusto - and cheap beer - they proper like to eat & drink out there. Gelert Spa is amazing - stay in the hotel and you'll have it to yourself. The opera is worth it - though the very Hungarian (apparently) tradition of applauding every song will grate after the third hour.

Thanks all, and you Rem.

Dont worry about booze mate. I may have the odd one, I don’t believe in complete abstinence  It only once makes me want it more

AA and abstinence programs condemn me to a lifetime of denial and regret. I’d rather have the odd bit of nonsensense and manage the usual   Times of Ok ness.

It's a boss city.

Prefer Buda over Pest. Buda is more beautiful and well kept, really nice walks too. Pest is where the ruin bars/markets etc are.

Top tip for anyone travelling next year, if you go towards the end of August, St. Stephens Day is amazing and they go all out for the firework show - all free too.

Would love to go again but Poland shits all over Budapest so makes it second on my list.

Always reminds me of the 4 Evertonians who the Echo reported went there by mistake thinking they were going to Bucharest for a European game & were wondering why the locals were all baffled about directions.

Little did they know how lucky they were as the more switched-on fans were forced to watch a 5-1 horror defeat, while they had a decent piss-up without the distractions.
