1892-LFCWasBorn 2,513 Report post Posted 16 Sep 2018, 19:24:23 Looking to put MS office on a new laptop, but potentially put on another laptop too. If I buy a hooky one from Ebay (ahem): Should I go for 2010 or 2016? As I'm looking to potentially put on another machine, should I choose a seller that posts the CD/DVD? Duncan Clench 279 Report post Posted 16 Sep 2018, 19:53:23 They’ve withdrawn support for 2010(11) now I think so the obvious answer is to go for 2016. However Office 2016 is the worst piece of crap that Microsoft have ever developed. Which is really going some! Any particular reason why you wouldn’t use Libre or Open Office instead? Both free and both great.

Both free and both great. Occasionally work on Word/Excel docs from work at home. Don't really use MS Office for personal stuff. Are both fully compatible with Word/Excel so I can work on these docs at home without any formatting getting fucked up?
Duncan Clench 279 Report post Posted 16 Sep 2018, 20:26:43 Yeah for sure. I haven’t come across any issues with formatting, personally. When you first start it, you’ll need to go into settings to make it default to save to .xls and .doc but that’s it. Worth a try if thats all you’re going to be using it for, and it if doesn’t work out for you then get MS Office. My personal preference is Libre Office, for what it’s worth. That was going to be my next question. Will download it.

Shooter in the Motor 8,635 Report post Posted 16 Sep 2018, 21:49:11 I have used OpenOffice and LibreOffice but recently I have preferred using WPS Office. I'm not sure if this is a rebranding of one of the others but I did find the others did crash regularly leaving work that I had done unsaved which was very frustrating. https://www.wps.com/
