Salah will put a team to the sword soon and all will be well.

It is great we are digging out results while he isn't at best....

Tonight will give us such belief and just helps the momentum grow.

Fair do's to Sturridge tonight too...i was vocal about not wanting him in team tonight - concerned about his suitability to how we are best set up...but he scored and after not doing much 1st half aside from the goal i thought he worked hard in 2nd and tried to get involved a lot and did....ok he is limited now and can't really run but he tried his heart out 2nd half to do what he could and got stuck in and left one on keeper (ok a better touch he scores) but still.....fair do's to him.

Well in Bobby. Anything other than a victory would have been a travesty given how the game panned out.

Apart from a 5-10 minute spell just before Mbappe's goal, we were playing with an intent and intensity that PSG just couldn't cope with. It's difficult enough to keep us at bay with 11 men, but they were trying to do it with just 8 (maybe 8.5) because Cavani was pressing our defence as a token gesture while Neymar and Mbappe were not arsed at all with tracking back. Time and again we were able to pick out Trent or Robertson in oceans of space out wide.

Sturridge played very well considering our usual attacking shape was asking him to play a role that on paper isn't suited to him. Given how he now lacks the dynamism to play on the shoulder of the last defender so has to drop off more and link up play, it didn't affect us too much. He had a heavy first touch in the build-up to Salah's disallowed goal and lost that chance himself, and he fluffed a great chance by misheading the ball tamely through to Areola. He made no such mistake in the first half when ghosting in between the PSG center backs to put us ahead. That was just a clever bit of movement.

The three in midfield were all excellent. Milner doubled our lead from the spot after a needless foul on Gini by Bernat (who looked like Moreno at his worst tonight). Wijnaldum was getting about the pitch brilliantly all night, as was Milner, and Henderson put himself about a number of times to break up play and upset the Qatari side's composure. Well done to all three.

Mane and Salah looked fairly sharp in the first half, but they did fade a bit in the second, particularly the latter. He played a couple of sloppy passes in-field, and it was from the second that PSG got their equaliser. Salah did find the back of the net in the second half but the goal was ruled out for a foul on the goalkeeper by Sturridge. I must admit I was surprised it looked like it had initially been given because I was sure that the ref would call the foul immediately. That sort of thing is penalised immediately in Europe.

Top marks to the defence too. Alisson might have conceded twice but simply wasn't troubled tonight. Trent and Robbo totally owned their flanks, and Gomez and Van Dijk coped with PSG's dangerous front line with aplomb. Again, we might have conceded twice but that was more down to PSG being ruthless with their few chances than us being carved open.

Shaqiri coming on for Salah galvanised Mane into upping the energy levels once more, and it allowed us to keep up with the persistence. Bobby wasn't on for long but he won us the match with a great bit of skill and powerful low shot into the far corner. We even got a sighting of the lesser-spotted Fabinho.

A good night then, and an excellent start to a tough CL group. Onwards we march.
