I know we have a golf thread but the Ryder Cup deserves it's own.

The Americans look very very strong this year and I fancy them to win by a good 4/5 points. The bastards.

Garcia in over Wallace is a travesty. Garcia has pedigree in this but his form is abysmal this year.

It looks like it's going to be a walkover for the yanks. Woods is on fire.

Rory has become a bottler, the US team should walk it.

Yep. Should be a stroll. All the Yanks are in good form and there’s five rookies on the European team.

The Americans are gonna win the cup quite comfortably, unfortunately. They’re just a better team aren’t they?

There’s no Medinah here with these sides.

I fucking love the Ryder Cup, no way we’re winning it this year.

You’re building your self up for an even bigger fall mate.

Rose, Donald, Casey, Poulter (as much as some of them are complete cunts) are not going to be able to carry the rookies.

I really like Bjorn but he’s been fucked by the qualifying rankings.

Wrong. Again.

Donald obviously Europe’s star man.

I don't think I'll ever be truly happy with a Ryder Cup win unless America have a chance to half a hole to retain the cup, but all of the European players have trampled up and down on the green beforehand.

Yep. I'll never let that one go. Utterly disgusting behavior by the Yanks.  Any captain with one ounce of decency should have conceded that hole.

Why did they carry on after Molinari won it? I switched off then as it was all pointless. Find it quite ironic how well a united Europe has done in an age (In the UK at least) of anti European sentiment. You'd almost think it's a metaphor for how much better a united european partnership in life in general is versus 'The American Way.'

Because they are playing individual match-ups that have already got under way.

I do think that even though one side has claimed sufficient points for victory, while there are still matches in progress any celebrations should be away from the course to allow the other players to continue. Once the final match is over, then the players can run onto the greens and celebrate. It's not been anything like as terrible as what happened at Brookline but it's still something that needs to be curbed better than it has been.

As for the difference in mentality, the Europeans buy into the team ethic much more readily than the Americans in my view. It's most evident in the foursomes where the European players actively try to set up the next shot for their teammates whereas the Americans are looking to play what would be the best shot for themselves. There is much more discussion and collective agreement on the European side which doesn't come naturally to the Americans.

I also get the impression that some of their players resent certain others being there regardless of what good form they're in. Neither Mickelson nor Woods seem like team players and the Ryder Cup format doesn't suit their preferred approaches to playing golf. It is on the PGA and the US Ryder Cup committee to decide whether they want a cohesive and consistent group of lesser names who are more than the sum of their parts, or whether they want their Galacticos to just go out there and show what they can do.
