Nunez: £85m fee + £10m agents fees (?)/6 seasons = £15.8m/season + £5.2m/season wages = £21m total player cost/season Haaland: £51m fee + £35m agents' fees/5 seasons = £17.2m/season + £19.5m/season wages = £36.7m total player cost/season Anyone pretending that Nunez cost as much as Haaland doesn't know what they're talking about, and I'm using all the add-ons in that price as well (I'm guessing on the agents' fees for Nunez as they weren't reported but £10m is probably the top end, given he didn't have a release clause and wasn't represented by a superagent). Our most expensive player ever, as measured in total cost/season remains Van Dijk at about £25m/season. 1

He was touting himself around at 600k per week, there's no way he's accepted 350k to go there. It's just half his wages will be paid elsewhere, off their books and in a more tax efficient manner.
Section_31 25,684 Report post Posted 7 Aug 2022, 18:35:12 It's utterly bizarre the obsession with who's better him of Nunez and it seems to be coming pretty much exclusively from outside our fanbase. I couldn't care less what they do or who they buy. The fact your average footy fan is more arsed about us than they are about them is what you'd expect in a country where Blackpool and Middleborough have Tory MPs. Take us out of the mix and it's basically golf with Kim Jong il - forever. 1

an tha 8,639 Report post Posted 7 Aug 2022, 19:58:22 Hate this narrative that other clubs could have bought Haaland. Reality is only the cheats could afford his wages and all the rest and of course whatever else he/his team are getting from other areas they'll be paying him/them in. The transfer fee is totally irrelevant

Presumably West Ham weren’t allowed (or prepared) to kick and ‘leave something on’ the opposition at will, whilst getting a succession of soft free kicks and a penalty in return (as per Craven cottage, just in the unlikely event that anyone didn’t get the comparison ). coachpotato 713 Report post Posted 8 Aug 2022, 09:46:45 I think, based on the one game played so far (which is dangerous), Haaland will definitely help City further whip the dross in this league, which is roughly 14 out of the 20 teams? I expect to see their goals total rocket as they put 5 or 6 past teams who they might have put 3 or 4 past last season, and he will very likely finish as leading scorer, injuries allowing. How it pans out against the few teams who actually try to give them a game will be interesting though, they appear to be playing more direct balls into the box or behind the defence to accommodate his style of play, and some of the better defenders may find that easier to play against than the usual “ get it to the line and pull it back” approach they usually adopt. Of course, they would still have the second option of doing that if things weren’t working out, so overall they’ll be more difficult to overcome. That’s not to say it can’t be done though. Section_31 25,684 Report post Posted 8 Aug 2022, 16:18:41 The OTT Halaand stuff is well and truly underway. "Ominous signs for the Premier League!"
