New manager Claudio Ranieri sent Coutinho on loan to struggling Spanish side Espanyol for the second half of the following season. He impressed, scoring five goals in 16 appearances.

This was when Liverpool first showed an interest in the player. Benitez had told their director of football, Damian Comolli, that Coutinho was the best young player at Inter and capable of being a big success in the Premier League.

Wonder if spurs hacked their system at the same time? I mean Pochettino was very interested in signing him at the time as well.

The reason there’s a confidentiality clause is because we hacked their system and inserted scouting files on John Stones and Fabian Delph....

Scouting reports were leaked...

John Stones: a beautiful footballer, most un-English, knows how to pass (though not how to defend), gives David Moyes the horn, major supporter of Catalan independence, less interested in middle eastern rights.

Fabian Delph: massive ego, no discernible talent, can always flog him to Everton when he proves to be useless, gives Jordan Pickford the horn, never heard of the middle east, no interest in human rights, called Fabian.

I know our scouts essentially based themselves in Southampton, but even I reckon they wouldn't have needed City's assistance to know that Coutinho was a prospect.

Southampton were after him at that point.

Well that’s just bollocks as Rafa had left the club before Comolli had joined.

Rafa was at Inter at the time we bought Coutinho from them and he recommended that he would be a good signing for us.

Actually he’d left and apparently recommended him having been impressed and given him his chance

He returned in the summer of 2010 and quickly established himself as a favourite of new manager Benitez, featuring in 14 league and Champions League games before Christmas, most often as a wide attacker in a 4-2-3-1 formation.

Unfortunately for the player, Benitez was sacked in December and his successor, Leonardo, was not anywhere near as big a fan of the young Brazilian. He played only four more games that season, although he did finish on a high by winning the Fifa under-20 World Cup with Brazil in the summer.

I didnt watch the final but some observations: city and people cackling on about them winning it 3 times in a row, dont they know we won it 4 successive years? I noticed there were a number of empty seats for both teams. I heard city scored from a corner that should have been a villa goalkick, how come there isnt the same furore about that compared to the spurs throw in and our goal?

All questions are rhetorical.
