He’d play on the left of a front three, which has always been his best position.

Agree that he is best there. Frankly though, selling him and getting Alisson and VvD with some of the money was a good move. And he didn't want to be here. When we sign another creative player a la Fekir, we'll forget Coutinho even exists.

Put Coutinho in our team now and we'd win the league.

I agree, problem is there is little to no chance of it happening. I expect his high salary, expensive lifestyle and glorious weathers are more than making up for any abuse he is receiving in Barcelona. I'm not even convinced the modern footballer really cares that much what the fans think about them, which is probably in their best interests at times.

Coutinho's versatility would make that the easiest decision ever.  Yes, obviously you'd re-sign him given the chance.

Obviously? Not really. I mean, I'm sure we'd think about it if he was actually available but he's an 100m investment at the least. We don't have that kind of money, not to mention the way he left wouldn't have exactly pleased Klopp or the owners.

Sami Hyypia - a waste of £2.6m.

On a serious note - if Liverpool had paid a top transfer fee for him would he still be considered a success? I believe the top transfer fee in 1999 was £22.5m for Nicholas Anelka from Arsenal to Real Madrid.

Given his career and importance to the team, yes, he would.

I think Coutinho would give us a little bit of everything we need. A top quality attacking option who can score goals, plus the creative passing ability if dropped into midfield.

Still, he’s not leaving Barca and we won’t be signing him, or spending £100 million on anyone in Jan, so the whole question is a bit silly really.

Vieri joined Inter from Lazio for £32m in 1999.

We need a Paul Walsh type buy in January.

I say let's go and sign a Kenny Dalglish type buy in January. If you're going back in time, might as well go back in style.
