All she asked for was at little respect. Aretha

Picked up David Ritz's biography, RESPECT, Aretha hated it apparently (I think her family has a few skeletons hiding away). I've been meaning to buy it for ages but just never got around to it so looking forward to starting that this weekend.

Some interesting stuff from the book so far:-

Whitney Houston's Mum sings the high backing vocal part in Ain't No Way

The Beatles wrote Let it Be for Aretha but she dilly dallied over the religious nature of the lyrics, Lennon & McCartney got fed up waiting so recorded it themselves.

Son of a Preacher Man was also written for Aretha but she dilly dallied again about the lyrics & Dusty Springfield had a hit with it, Aretha was not best pleased.

She was a major pisshead between '67 & '70, getting battered about by her husband at the time probably didn't help.

Eric Clapton who played on a track on Lady Soul had to come back a second day to record while Aretha wasn't around because he shat it when she was there & couldn't get a decent take (understandable really).

There is a bit about her husband being a cunt on the Muscle Shoals documentary. The guy that owned the studio apparently got pissed and had words after a argument and he fucked off leaving Aretha stranded in Alabama.

Duane Allman did a fair bit of guitar work for her

Didn't realise that Otis Redding wrote respect.

I have this on 'Otis Blue', it's quite a different song but certainly you can tell it's where Aretha sung it from.

This is the track Clapton played on. My favourite Aretha one. His playing is exquisite on it.
