Intellectual Dark Web

"Postmodern conspiracy" is a variant of anti-intellectualism I take it? Like "why do the post-modernists make things so complicated when they are clearly black and white sometimes"? He seems to talk a lot about patriarchy and masculinity it seems. Does he have any credentials in the field of gender studies or even sociology? His wiki page mentions none.

No, I think it's more of a variant of anti-Marxism, it is very anti poststructuralism, Foucalt Derrida etc. which according to the theory have deliberately "infected" and "infested" academia with their ideas and people in order to impose some kind of new totalitarianism through thrusting new language (vocabulary) and enforcing total relativism. It's a gross simplification but  I am constrained here by my limited intellectual abilities.

He’s a right wing ideologue, a nutcase reactionary. The cultural Marxism stuff, from which he forms the basis of much of his attack material, is literally a Nazi conspiracy theory. He makes his money by preying on the weak and ignorant. All of his arguments should be viewed through that prism and treated with the utmost scorn

No, but you should be an expert in a field if you want to be an opinion leader. Is he an expert in gender studies? And if not why is he talking about it as if he is a person of authority in that field.

Probably because he's often asked about it due to his criticism of the law in Canada forcing others to use chosen gender pronouns.

Again, I'm not sure he's put himself forward as an opinion leader or authority in gender studies. He has an opinion from a psychological perspective, and from a political perspective, which he absolutely is qualified to talk about. Surely having opinions that skirt but fall outside of your qualifications is fair. If not, I'd better hush up.

Admittedly, this concept was new to me when I read the NYT article you linked to, which on the other hand is not exactly written "in good faith".

The first article I posted in this thread was from NYT referring to him as a “renegade of the intellectual dark web”. They love him.

Which is kind of the position the cultural Marxism theory says cultural Marxism produces, there is a prescribed  prism and obligatory scorn which prevents and kind of exchange of points or dialogue. And of course, the Nazis make and appearance in case you didn't get the message the first time. Extremely well put. And if you don't get the message, you are silenced and / or removed from your post.

Peterson’s stuff in 12 rules is pretty old hat self help, but it’s aimed at a group that are usually ignored by the left. I’ve real (Rutherford for instance) the science is poor around the lobster stuff but all that motivational wank is weird to me.

His view of equality of outcome v equality of opportunity is interesting as it’s backed by facts that I’m yet to hear people debunk. Similarly the stuff on gender and language.

As I’ve said a couple of times he totally loses it on god. If you think there’s some alliance between this group listen to SH and Peterson talk for 2 hours on the definition of a fact. Fucking mental.

So, he says some good, some bad, some shit. Like most people. Take the bits you like, ignore the bits you don’t and admit he’s just plain wrong on other bits. To say he’s thick when you spend 4 years contributing fuck all to a football forum is hilarious. Especially if you don’t even make your bed in a morning.

In all honesty, I just find it very difficult to give him the benefit of the doubt, when he spouts extremely misogynistic views like blaming women, when sexually assaulted in the office... because they ask for it, by wearing red lipstick and high heels.

And I find your closing sentence a bit baffling if I’m honest. You don’t need to be an expert in a field to have an opinion. May as well close the football forum otherwise.

But again, that’s not what he said is it? I’m not an apologist for him, the God bit and dishonesty around it colours him for me.

The stuff around gender pay gap, job choices and % of left leaning college lecturers is interesting

Edit; I think he’s said he regrets the office stuff too, was wound up.

I think his stuff could probably be debunked. But, it's so inanely boring that most normal people outside his fanboys only read bits of it, get really fucking bored, really fucking quickly and lash re-runs of Takeshi's Castle on Challenge instead.

Same with all self help books, they are full of shit. I know a bloke called Woody who managed to get on the coat tails of some senior managers at our place. He was a life coach who was mentoring loads of people at an eye watering day rate. He did a session for us plebs. His special message was ‘when you get home, put your key in the door and say “let’s turn this puppy on” then say “I’m going to be beautiful to all the mammals in here today”’

I got caught mouthing “this is fucking bollocks” - got in trouble.

I started Deepak Chopra’s book based on a mate’s recommendation, couldn’t finish the first chapter.

The Kathy Newman interview is only 15 mins, should be easy to debunk.

Oh sure mate, but you and me chatting away on an internet forum is not comparable to the status and distribution that guy has. If you have a heart problem, go see a specialist, not a doctor whose qualifications skirt the issue, but who has an opinion on hearts. I brought that topic up because of the title of the article that was posted before, not because of the pronoun thing btw.

As an aside on the pronoun thing, the English speaking world doesn't know how lucky it is in how gender is handled within the language. The way it is in German would make many a heads explode.

But you can’t go to prison for using the wrong one (tin hat on!)

Shapiro, Harris, Rubin, Peterson, Weinstein, etc. are all weirdos, you can tell. Just get the feeling that their "fans" are people who aren't doing particularly well in life.

Peterson's self-improvement stuff, I can get behind, as shallow as it is, and I find some of the mainstream media's efforts to smear him a little cringe. But the rest of that gang are shite.
