Shapiro is a bog-standard conservative, but Sam Harris is a registered Democrat.

I don’t want to be seen as ungrateful for your support but I think you’ve managed to get yourself confused with the threads mate. There’s a dedicated thread to lol at centrists is all I’m saying. This thread is more about the group loosely known as Intellectual Dark Web, ranging from Ben Shapiro, Jordan B Peterson, Maajid Nawaz, Stefan Molyneux and the Weinstein brothers.

Being a registered Democrat isn't evidence of being centrist. Joe Manchin is a Democrat senator and he'd be on the right of the Tory party here.

Their political spectrum bears little resemblance to that of a Western European country, let alone any actual ideologies.

When you have a Democratic party that takes money from oil companies and big Pharma,  and contains some of the most repugnant blood thirsty war mongers on the planet, being a member is no proof of having centrist views. Not in any meaningful sense of the word.

The US has two parties that represent big business and nothing else but fringe parties of no real standing. Very little resemblance to most European countries, but the UK is creeping very close.

I think there is plenty of difference between the two but we're largely talking about a right wing party and a far right party.

Big differences on social policies, possibly not quite so much on economic policies.

Yeah, but with the greatest will in the world your social policies will mean little if you largely support the same economic policies which lend themselves to elevating the rich and alienating the poorer members. Therefore leading to the prejudices which are still there today.

No argument from me. In fact, for example Cameron sometimes just parroted whatever the Lib Dems or Labour were saying about social issues in order to try and grab their voters. Not because he actually gave a fuck about the issues, quite the opposite. Taking money from the poor and giving it to the rich was his only aim.

Wasn't that more about simply pretending that they'll spend money and then not? Rather than social policies. Not sure.

I think the Tories just realised they could kill the Lib Dems stone dead if they moved a bit to the left on some social policies.
