Fekir Alternatives

Malcolm is a pretty similar player, and there have been a few tentative links to him. He's played mainly on the right but could easily fit in a No. 10 role. Lemar is a former target, so we could always reignite our interest in him. Same may stand for Zielinski. I also do like Forsberg and Fabian Ruiz personally.

But it's very difficult to predict what Jurgen will do. We went from Gotze to Mane, from Zielinski and Dahoud to Wijnaldum, from Brandt to Salah. Different profiles in all cases. Despite being a big fan of Fekir, I never thought we would be going in for him as it is not really obvious where he fits in. But, it has become increasingly clear that Jurgen prefers to go for the best footballer and then adapts his formation to the players, rather than go for specific profiles.

Don't think that's true regarding Fekir at all. Clearly could have been our more creative midfielder or cover for the front three.

We could have even played a workmanlike midfield with a quite option on the bench.

Basically the Coutinho we never replaced.
