Xherdan Shaqiri

He's not good enough to be a starter. Strange signing. Think Klopp really wants someone that can score long-rangers to open up space the way Coutinho used to.

I think a lot of people will be proved wrong over this one , bags of skill and only needs to improve his work rate under Jurgen to become a top player with us .

No mention of this signing on the main BBC page as it's still all about Ingerlund and their ever so heroic march to almost glory. They do however manage to run a story on Utd agreeing to let Blind be sold to Ajax.

It was the top football story last night.

I do not think it is a strange signing at all. True he is not going to be a regular starter but he has been bought to bolster the squad. That is what a lot of people moaned about last season. We are not going to bulk the squad with players of the quality of Eden Hazard.

A massive upgrade on our options for cover in our attack than what we had last season.

Will be very useful when we have 3 games in a week and want to/need rest one of our front 3 or when they are fucked from international travelling etc...will be a better option from bench too.

At the money we have paid it is as Klopp says a no brainer.

In general, people who have questioned attacking signings under Klopp have been proved wrong. He just knows what he's doing when it comes to getting the best out of attackers and signing players who fit the style of play/squad and this will be no different.

Exactly. Plus I’ve heard some people question Shakiri’s attitude but Klopp won’t entertain players with bad attitudes so all looks positive to me.

When you read here about Origi today being asked to play wide and of course stinking the place out doing so it just makes this signing make all the more sense.

Add on the Lallana being our replacement for Salah in the European Cup Final and it all points to a perfectly reasonable attempt at trying to add some much needed quality cover to our front 3/the width of it.

Wonder if he will be a bit like Robertson was, doesn’t start the season until he is fit enough to play the Klopp way

Robertson had to usurp Moreno, this chap has to get ahead of Mane and Salah, so no, never in a million years will that happen.

He doesn't have to usurp anyone. He just has to offer a viable alternative for when Mane of off it or injured or in case Salahs legs fall off. He'll get tons of games if he works hard.

Spot on.

The likes of Solanke featured in 27 games for us last season - ok mostly as a sub but had he not been useless you can bet it would have been more.

I honestly have no idea why people have a problem with this signing - we literally have nobody who can play wide in our front 3 aside from Mane and Salah and it is soft to expect them to play every game.

Yesterday Divock Origi was used wide and was total shite - because that isn't his natural position...and we all can't forget that in the biggest game in football we brought Adam Lallana on to replace Salah - yeah that is right, a slow midfielder who has never played well when asked to play further forward as replacement for our top scorer...

Shaqiri is for me a very useful addition to a part of the squad we are absolutely exposed in unless people honestly believe the pile of shite that is Solanke, Ings, Sturridge and Origi contains the answer.
