World Cup in England

Recommended Posts

I know most on here hate England and international footy in general but I enjoyed England hosting Euro 96, even just for the amount of different fans visiting the city. The Brazil v Croatia game seemed like a success despite the expensive tickets.

Read an article the other day about the 2026 World Cup and that it was basically a choice between Morocco and a joint Canada/Mexico/USA bid.

Apparently the Morocco bid needed to satisfy several security conditions and build a few new grounds that could cost a few billion. The USA have recently had the World Cup in 1994 and Mexico has already had it twice. Also Uruguay is possibly interested in holding the 2030 World Cup because the first one was held there in 1930.

We all know that FIFA are corrupt twats but I don't understand why they want to hold it in countries that require significant investment like the 2014 World Cup. England could easily host the World Cup at short notice given the amount of stadia available and the fact that England is used to holding events.

Wembley -90,000

Old Trafford- 76,000

Emirates- 60,000

Anfield- 54,500 - possible expansion on top

St James' Park - 54,000

Etihad - 52,000

Sunderland - 49,000

Chelsea - 40,000

Villa Park - 40,000

Also there are new grounds in Brighton, Bristol, Southampton, even Hull.

A joint UK bid would open up to Hampden, The Principality stadium, Celtic Park/Ibrox/Murrayfield and Windsor Park.

FIFA are open to expanding the World Cup in future to 48 teams so only a few countries could cope with hosting it.

They've done their world tour of hosts after Qatar.

Do you think that England will ever host it again or FIFA will continue to ignore England as a host country?.

I know there is a lot of politics involved and there are so many suitable European footballing countries to satisfy on a 12 year rolling basis , but it seems crazy that USA and Mexico look likely to have had 2 World Cups since the originators of football have. Maybe there isn’t enough pocket lining in a British tournament ?

Would love the World Cup here it's a perfect fit the infrastructure the grounds makes perfect sense unless your FIFA of course .

Remember coming up to Anfield to watch the Czech republic v Russia match in 96 it was a cracking match

It comes down to the size of the bribe.  That's it, full stop.

How the fuck else would a nation like Russia with obvious ongoing racism problems get it ?

Or a country where it's so fucking hot in the summer they've had to move the tournament to play in the winter ?

Won tickets for that game. Thought it was going to be shite but it was the best game of the tournament.

There was some problem with the tickets for euro 96 as a lot of games had tons of empty seats.

England could host the tournament tomorrow. The only thing going against that is if FIFA are still looking at "legacy" being one of the award criteria; meaning that the tournament should go to a country that could benefit from a boost to its football infrastructure.

Daft isn't it?

Could stage it in a country with more suitable stadiums than potential games to be played in each one, decent transport links, so you can follow your team around.

Or a country with a couple of suitable stadiums, and a couple that have needed temporary stands made of jarg scaffolding thrown up just to meet the capacity requirements.

An average of around 1000 miles between these stadiums, that's more than the distance from the top to bottom of the uk, so we have dozens of decent grounds in the space that they have 2 or 3 shit ones.

Impossible to follow your team around the county.

Racism, homophopia, hooliganism.

Fucking cunts. Do quatar even have any stadiums built yet? Those slaves need to get a move on. 80bb4848ec5c453354f03ab8f773dd18.jpgca5b849009e0119f999a0421a05e04c9.jpg
