Films from the 70s, 80s and 90s, that are underrated and/or largely forgotten

State of Grace. It’s in my all-time top ten films with one of the best casts ever: Ed Harris, Gary Oldman, Sean Penn, Robin Wright and an assortment of character-acting greats. Very few people seem to have seen it, never mind rate it. I fuvking love it though.

Why have I not seen this? Sounds brilliant.

I've stuck it on my shopping list & will check if it's on Netflix tonight (I'd put my mortgage on it not being on there though).

Brother (2000)

Good film this. And yes it’s release date was 2000. Suck it.

A Japanese Yakuza gangster is exiled to the United States. Takeshi settles in Los Angeles where his younger, half brother lives and finds that although the turf is new, the rules are still the same as they try to take over the local drug trade.

Shadow of Chikara is an interesting horror Western from '77 with Sondra Locke and Joe Don Baker. I saw it as a kid in the '80s on one of the terrestrial channels and it found it really scary (obviously doesn't stand up today). It's been re-released under several names like Shadow Mountain and Curse of Demon Mountain amongst others. I don't think the original print survives as it's never had a proper DVD release, just a VHS transfer. The full film is on YouTube in poor quality-

Cop with James Woods from around the same time as Bestseller is also a cracking thriller-

Ghost Story was a pretty good horror film from the early '80s- it was adapted from the Peter Straub novel and doesn't do it justice (it would be a series these days), but is still quite chilling in parts.
