That was a genuine question. Did Mascherano win one trophy with us? Didi came on and won us the CL.

I can’t agree sorry. He was too poor on the ball, so much so Barca gave up on him as a DM and ended up playing him as a centre half.

Hamman was the better player. Also the better DM. Why? He read the game better and did not have to throw himself into lunging tackles because he anticipated better.

 

It was also the Hamman substitution that turned the game in 2005. And he took a penalty with a broken foot.

And as for the LFC team he was in finishing lower that was because is was in a poor side. But even so his trophy haul wasnt too shabby

Hamnn sides was hardly full of dross was it. He played in a era of oy 2 really good league teams in Arsenal and Utd, yet we regularly never made the champions league and conceded a goal or more a game. Even in Mascherano worst season(when it fell apart under Rafa) we conceded few goals.

Did Barcelona ever go for Steven Gerrard, Paul Scholes, or Lampard? Three of the best midfielders the league has seen.

He'd have more to do defensively in a team if the other two midfielders were a deep lying playmaker and a number 10 though rather than two water carriers. Be interesting to see if Fabinho could handle the extra work.

Alonso and Gerrard were as good if not better defensively than Gini and Hendo. Keep in mind that that Masch also played alongside Kuyt and Riera, and both players were more defensive-minded than our current wide players; Mane and Salah. Let’s not forget that our overall setup under Benitez was a lot more conservative than we are under Klopp.

He was never a ‘top’ centre half. He was very good in Barca’s setup. In midfield, he was basically like a lesser version of N’golo Kante.

Barca won everything with him at CB and did that in a dominant fashion. That's really all that matters. Whether he would have been a "top" CB anywhere else isn't really relevant.
