Kante would be the best midfielder at the club so it doesn't really matter. Fabinho is the only one I would see as a competitor.

Its not about individuals, its about the balance of the team. Klopp seems very content with a hard working and mostly functional midfield which allows the front three to express their ability.

Kante would seem to fit perfectly into that model and would be an upgrade. It's not happening anyway so it doesn't really matter.

Kanté would play ahead of Fabinho in the Wijnaldum role. Not that Wijnaldum isn't good, but Kanté is absurd. Just dominates every game he is a part of. One of the best midfielders I've ever seen.

On Fabinho, nevermind his defensive ability, his passing and vision in the final third is among the best at the club. It's amazing how complete a player he is. Better than Mascherano, for me.

Not for me, Clive.

Fabinho is class, but watching a team try to break on us and then Mascherano scurrying back, emerging over the guys shoulders and sliding into pinching it off his toes, as Anfield goes yeah, before breaking out into Jaaavier Mas-Ch-Eranooooooooooo

Kante is fucking immense

He would get into any of the 2 other spaces ahead of Fabinho. He can do everything and would be perfect for a Klopp midfield. He's better than anyone we have in them positions and that's no slight on our midfielders

I agree that Kante is very very good but for me he wouldn’t get into our side over Fabinho. Fabinho is 20 centimeter taller than Kante and one of the reasons we have been so dominant in scoring from set pieces over the last couple of seasons is because of the height we have as a team. Adding in a shortarse as Kante over Fabinho would be a very big step backwards on that.

I think that's a very valid point.

Regardless, Kante plays more of the Henderson/Gini role but obviously much better.

Did Mascherano ever perform for us to the level Fab is showing now? Always thought he was a bit overrated. Excellent defensively, but a limited footballer.

Limited to world class? I agree.

Fabinho is limited to solar system class.
