Sad news and 61 is too young to die. Always makes you wonder about your own health and how fragile life can be, especially as he was a former athlete and would have been active when he was a coach.

True enough but he was a chronic alky with 3 drink driving convictions to prove it.

Hadn't he also been out on the piss with that other massive whopper Alan Brazil earlier that same day too? [shrugs]

Strangely moved by this news although expected it from the medical reports, Never really a great fan but I suppose the battles with his demons made him more human than his peers ; and more likeable, Gary Speed was another although in quite different circumstances .

RIP Butch ,you were quite a remarkable player.

Booze or no, he leaves behind loved ones and fans who loved him.

I remember him fondly as a player in a cool team from London in the late 70s, when I was growing up supporting the best team in the world.

61, ridiculously young in this day and age.

Sad. Bit tragic.

RIP, Ray.

RIP Ray, very sad news.

Still married to the same woman as in his football days so this "crazy drunk" tag seems a bit off to me. If he was really bad he would have destroyed his marriage as so many do.

Gordan Strachan on Sky's "debate" now looks quite tearful.

I used to work with a guy who was a dead ringer for the Tango guy.  I was about the only one he'd let call him by that, he was about 16 stone and a rugby player.  The nicest guy you'd ever meet, but absolutely not one to be getting on the wrong side of.

RIP Butch Wilkins.
