Defensive pessimism is the most adaptive mindset when it comes to supporting us I've found.

On the plus side, they do have a few of their best players missing too (Aboubakar, Corona, Danilo). That said, they definitely have superior full-backs to us in Ricardo Pereira and Alex Telles. But hopefully, I will be made to eat my words after they get destroyed by Salah and Sadio.

What the fuck is that midfield.

I'm pretty sure Klopp's thinking will have been influenced by the Southampton game.

TAA was all alone out on the right against Tadic/Bertrand. Salah wasn't tracking back (and obviously you wouldn't want him doing that much), and Oxlade-Chamberlain was too far forward. I think Klopp will have seen that and put Milner in to give TAA some cover and prevent him from being overloaded by their fullback & winger.

I generally don't like Milner in midfield but I can see the wisdom tonight. Apparently with Aboubakar out Porto's other forwards are more hit-the-big-fella-with-the-cross types, so stopping the crosses would be more of a priority.

Would have preferred to have seen Oxo-Chambo or Lallana in that midfield.

I agree. There's no pace or guile in there, Winjaldum needs a big game sick of him being a passenger, at least he scored a few times last year (At home, where else?) but even that's dried up.

Milner is better than any of Porto's midfield.

Honestly, you give them too much credit. They haven't lost a game this season, won loads and yet there's a rizla between the top 3.

I'd be more worried if we were drawn against Sporting or Benfica.  Aboubakar has just been a flat track bully against shite defences, someone like Benteke would score 50 in that league.
