According to Dermot Gallagher, yeah I know, the rule is that once Lovren touches it the original offside is no longer relevant and the ball is back in play. Must say I've never heard it clarified quite like that before but surely he's not going to go on telly with time to review the decision then get the rule completely wrong, is he?

The original rule was if a defender deliberately played the ball back to the keeper ie not an accidental touch or a sliced clearance and a player in an offside position ran on to try and get the ball, he was flagged offside. Now they give the striker the benefit so if the defender so much touches the ball the offside player is now onside.

Just waiting for 3 Stacks to confirm from 5 other angles.

Unconfirmed yet, John Moss awaiting executive decision......

I never blame or complain about refs.

And even so, that second decision is a disgrace, no other word to describe it. And as others have said, Lamela is offside to boot. It's an abomination from the linesman and there are vids flying around Twitter that show him "celebrating" his decisions by pumping his fists. It's weird as fuck.

Kane was offside when the ball was played. If he hadn't been, Lovren wouldn't have needed to stretch to stop the pass. Of course he's interfering with play. Off course he's offside.

I think overall it was a fair result, we were clearly the better team in the first half, even if we did give up a lot of possession, and they were in the second. However throughout, our midfield was none existent even in the first half and it's a real worry. No pace, no strength, no mobility, no creativity. I know AOC was terrible when he came on but he should have started, and Can should never play for this club again until he signs a new contract and unless we're desperate.

Totally agree. But that is not how they play it now. If a defender touches the ball it magically turns offside into onside.

But Lamela was offside anyway. VAR sees them get neither pen. Granted we probably wouldn’t have scored the second as they were all over us but our goals were both legit. They were gifted two pens.

after that i cant wait for VAR !!
