Anyone been hit by cyber crime lately?

Sorry for the work request, but I'm desperately trying to interview someone who's been affected by cyber crime.

All kinds are fine, but specifically I'm trying to find someone who was exposed to malware through using older, unpatched software or apps, or had their email password hacked.

All interviews would be anonymous, obviously. Also, if you know someone who's struggled with it it and would be willing to have a quick chat, that'd be awesome too.

Keep hitting brick walls. Help me, GF, you're my only hope.

Edit: If it's sensitive, you can DM me too...

I've done this... twice! Loads of companies wanting to put up spox, rather than finding me case studies with actual humans.

Fair play, the only other thing I can think is offer the PR a quid pro quo of you'll take their bullshit spokesman if they can offer up a couple of legit case studies. Most of these companies usually have a client or two to hand they can throw about.

You'd think so wouldn't you. I've promised them all mentions in the piece, but no bites. I've been a journo for 20 years now and finding a case study for this is one of the most challenging things I've done.

I once clicked on an email claiming to be from eBay and entered my password on their site.

Next thing I know I'm selling 20 sets of golf clubs at £299 a pop!

Does that count?

Oh man, was that the extent of it?

Yes, sadly no more than that. I noticed before they got sold otherwise the seller would have creamed a fortune and I would have had a problem.

A mate of mine got some malware from a football or music streaming site on his work laptop (he’s a teacher) and it totally locked out with a page that included a pic from his laptop webcam, which worried the shit out of him.

It was in the school holidays from memory (this was at least 4, maybe more years ago).

He was mates with one of the IT bods at the school from playing 5-a-side so got it fixed, but could’ve easily caused him major problems.

I think he thought it was legit to start with but then looked online on his phone etc to realise it was malware.

Doubt he’d be willing to tell you about it but thought I’d share.
