Transgender stuff - what's going on?

The SNP wanted to allow males who identified as women to enter women's single sex spaces. The Supreme Court has established that under the law, only biological females can be regarded as women, and therefore such males can be legally excluded.

I've not followed what the SNP has been up to, but trans rights campaigners have long been aware of the inadequacy of the Equality Act, which protects people who are transitioning from discrimination, but not people who have already transitioned.

They were trying pass legislation to say people who were born as men and then transitioned could be protected as women. Which they now can't because as per today's ruling, they are blokes.

A decision which clarifies a fairly minor issue in British society.

And, a decision which probably won't make most people overly happy. It'll probably lead to trans people still feeling that they're being persecuted and misgendered, which they don't want. And the people at the other end of this issue won't be happy as trans people will still exist, which most of them don't want.

Fixed it.

There's a pretty big gap in the middle, full of people that aren't rabid extremists about this one way or the other.

I know. That's why I highlighted people at both ends of the issue. And then mentioned that for most people it's a fairly minor issue to them.

But, thanks for pretty much posting exactly the same points that I did but in a slightly different way.

How long are you going to keep dying on this hill? Trump as President obviously wasn't enough - will it take Farage as Prime Minister?

The hill of correcting people who are wrong?  I was born a pendant and I'll die a pendant.  I've no idea what you think Trump and Farage have to do with this.

You should just feel mightily privileged and important as your opinions on a football forum seem to be able to determine who becomes Prime Minister and POTUS.

I don't see anything wrong with Stront's post at the top of the page. It certainly goes along with today's court ruling.

The good news is that after nearly 400 pages of increasingly unhinged "debate" in this thread, the law of the land is that you were wrong and I was right.

Cant argue with that. Just like the law of the land on the Lucy Letby thread means I’m right and you’re wrong.

Thanks!

Well, yeah, I responded to you saying that most people won't be overly happy. I doubt very that's the case.

You missed the bit saying that it's a fairly minor issue in British society - i.e. that most people won't be arsed about the decision.

The irony is that by saying “men who wear a dress” you are being “transphobic”

He's misrepresenting what today's ruling actually said.

You don't understand (or refuse to understand) the point of today's ruling.
