I think it's an absolute scandal that kids under the age of 18 were / are allowed to have this done to them.

A well-known political philosopher wrote a book about the issues with this and Amazon banned it from being sold because he raised some of the issues you're talking about here, citing several studies of people who received puberty blockers.

They sell Mein Kampf, but heaven forbid we even question this particular issue!

I didn't read it, and I'm not certain I would have agreed with his conclusions, but it's actually rather frightening to me that a private company can essentially use their massive platform to remove someone else's speech. I mean, he's free to sell it elsewhere, but what happens the next time someone approaches a publisher to say they'd like to write a book about this issue? No chance any publisher is going to put something out that won't be carried by Amazon!

When a half truth become true you need a better looking glass...

Ta, hadn't heard about this.

A quick search tells me it's from the "well-known philosopher" whose main previous work is "What is Marriage?: Man and Woman: A Defense" and mainly works for a conservative religious-right thinktank...

What does that mean?

Yup, or a cunt.

I'm not one for defending Amazon either, but the defence 'well you'll flog Hiltler confessions' doesn't cut it in this instance.

You're running a loser here, Rico.

The guys a full on crank.

I’ve never heard of him.  But the idea that because someone has written for a ‘right wing’ publication you can’t listen to them is mad. Particularly on this issue.  The left have closed the door, life long, left wing feminists have been closed down

Julie Bindel for example.

Owen Jones seems to have realised he needs a woman to help him have children. Not people who claim to be a woman, an actual biological woman. Fucking bigot.

I guess transwomen are women, until you need to rent a womb.

No, this is the same as gay conversion stuff, just fronted by somebody who managed to get a PhD in something pathetic, from an even worse university, with no real links to the issue.

It's was always a claim to authority that has no real authenticity, to have a dig at Amazon*

Internet nonsense at it's best, tell a lie that gets talked about as you can skulk into the shadows when the questions start getting asked, or go on TV and try to defend the indefensible while getting paid.

Bellends.

*I have no reason to defend Amazon.

When this house of cards falls down, I think the left will be fucked for years.

The levels of self delusion required are incredible. The number of times people have been told ‘that won’t happen’. And then it happens.  1:50 people in women’s prisons are men. In the general population it’s over 1:4000.  So either trans women are offending like men, or men are using the system to get out of men’s prisons.

Nah, it's not that so much, but the idea that there's a book from a credible source that cites several published studies makes me intrigued BECAUSE I want to know about that information (hence me asking what book).  People like to talk about all this data (this is a real issue I have with both sides of the argument), but research to date is sparse and larger datasets only really relate to crime and sexual health at the moment (in the UK). So... I clicked once on that wiki and found that the other issue this guy hangs his hat on is being anti same-sex marriage.

So, for me, that potential credibility is already pretty shot down. I'm willing to listen to a lot of people I disagree with, but the US religious right is not very high on that list.

I'd still be interested in seeing these citations at some point, but I'm not about to hunt them down now. I'm full of steak, a little sunburnt, we won 3-0, and I still have half a bottle of wine waiting in the kitchen.

I said I had no idea who this guy is. I was referencing the ‘mainly works for right wing’

There are stats and studies in the thread.

Like I said, I haven't read it and don't know if I'd agree with it.

My issue is more that debate on the issue is being shut down by a private company with zero accountability. What happens if a year from now some hard-left crackpots do a terrorist attack and then Amazon bans any book advocating for socialism? There's absolutely nothing anyone could do about it.

But anyway, I think we're well off the topic of transgenderism here so I won't take it further.
