I think it's a tricky situation that society hasn't quite got to grips with yet. I don't know the story, but if you've got a dick then surely you shouldn't be in a women's prison. Just saying 'yeah, but they're women' isn't good enough.

Yeah was baffled that the BBC kept calling him her while referring to the fact he'd been moved back to a man's prison, even scared to offend rapists now it would seem.

 

Graham Linehan was recently given a police warning I think for referring to someone who self identified as a woman as 'he'. Although I don't know the full story, needless to say some of the abuse doled out to the man - who's currently battling cancer and whose wife's details had been released online  - wasn't very, ahem, liberal.

 

Said it before but there's serious safety questions to be asked here too. There's a huge difference in this debate between someone who's agonized over things all their lives possibly to the point of suicide and wants an operation, and some big sweaty builder being able to just walk into any women's bogs where your five year old daughter is taking a shit, just because he suddenly decided in that instant he's a bird.

Wouldn't be so bad seeing the coppers getting involved in all this stuff if they weren't so shit at everything else, half the Deliveroo riders in East London look like Simon Weston and you can't get a copper out for anything less than a meat cleaver in the face.

It really should be that simple. If a person's brain tells them they're a woman but they're still physically a man, it's a damn shame for them, but they shouldn't be surprised if strangers/authorities treat them like a man.
