Huge relief. Mad to think that it was hard to relax even at 6-2. That's just crazy, can we please buy one or two defenders before the window closes. Great work from the attackers, even though we could've scored about 8 in that.

Finally back in the CL though, well happy that's out of the way. Has been giving me bad nerves for months whenever I've thought about it.

We were informed prior to the two games that Hoffenheim were strong, well discilpined defensively and potently quick moving going forward, the new upcoming stars of the Bundesliga. Now, that we have almost casually dismissed them, it turns out that they were actually a piss poor, second rate bunch of journeymen.

I know things change quickly in footbal but, fucking hell, they went from great to garbage in 180 minutes.

Liverpool must have had something to do with it.

if that was the case, I look forward to us continuing to perform like that in the league.

They lost a big player in Sule, who is only 21 yet moved to Bayern and played for Germany in the Confed Cup. They will struggle a bit more this season without a signing or two.

We're still feeling our way into the new season and you can tell as we're still a bit rusty with our execution. However, some of our football going forward is exceptional and it will only get better when Salah is more bedded into the team. Assuming he stays, add Coutinho into the mix and we are going to cut teams apart when everyone is up to speed.

Defensively however it's the same old story - Moreno was nowhere for the first and Lovren was floundering for the second. Credit to Hoffenheim because they kept on coming at 3-0 and 4-1 when some teams would just have concentrated on fitness and keeping it down. I have a lot of time for them and the way they play. But we should have been making it our goal to keep it to a clean sheet when the tie was effectively over after 20 minutes.

I'm really pleased we have got through and there's lots to be excited about and yet the same old infuriating things happen again. Can is great to watch when he's in the right frame of mind and is becoming more and more focused as he matures - we need to get that new contract sorted.

However, if we don't use the next week to tear arse around and get some deals over the line then we will simply spin our wheels. We can outscore weaker opposition like tonight but we can't do it every week. Somewhere, we need to cut out these goals conceded. That's 6 in 4 games already.

But enough moaning - we're back at the top table and it will be a better competition for us being there. I just hope we get a favourable draw tomorrow because I reckon we could make a dent into the latter stages.
