How can you not find leaving Trent out as significant? He has absolutely smashed the assists record from right back for 2 years and completely changed the way the position is played. His vision and passing range/ability from that position has never been seen before.

Of course it's significant if he's not taken to a major international tournament.

Because there is talent at his position. However much or little you rate Walker, James and Trippier, they are all champions this season. Albeit, yes, Trent is better than those three, but in conjunction with those three players' successes this season, you also have a crap manager that doesn't rate him. It is what it is.

I think Southgate wants Walker as he covers the right part of a three and Trippier is in 'the gang' so it's Trent or James and both are excellent players. If either of them aren't gojng to be first choice  they will be playing table tennis and FIFA for 3 weeks or so , so it is probably for best for us if Trent gets jibbed , particularly if England go on to stink the competition out.

From a purely selfish angle, I hope Trent doesnt make the cut so he at least gets some rest.

That said, southgate is like that fucking idiot, Pearce, who wanted a southern club ethos in the england squad and decided Scotty Parker was a better candidate for England's captain than Stevie.

Southgate is the same. It was no coincidence in my opinion he took the captaincy off Hendo to give it to Kane. Ive no problem with Kane the player but captain of the national team? Nah, not having it.

Giving Southgate Trent is like giving Maureen from driving school a Bugatti Veyron.

I wouldn't let him manage a team of under 10's. He's full blown LMA levels of cluelessness, should never have been given the job in the first place. That said, if they want a manager who is English, then they are a bit fucked as there isn't a manager out there who is English and has shown they are capable of doing anything useful.

Reminder that Alex Ferguson thought that Alan Hansen wasn't good enough for Scotland in 1986.

Are you saying Utd are going to replace Ole with Southgate? Could work.

Southgate is just a company man - he's in charge because he's good at not rocking the boat, keeping the PL managers sweet and generally saying the right things at the right time. He's got a good enough squad and enough tactical nous to get through the qualifiers with ease and then through the early stages of a tournament with a favourable enough draw, but when it comes to a face off against a team with significant resources he'll probably get found out.

The WC in 2018 summed him up. Easy qualification because they outclass everyone in the group, some nice chat about earning your place in the squad, changing to a back three, practicing penalties and having calls with PL managers about managing minutes in the buildup to the tournament proper, get a nice draw and stuff a few teams because Harry Kane can score goals, then bump into a good but not great Croatia team and get found out.

SSN keep banging about Soutgate bringing "FOUR RIGHT BACKS TO THE EUROS."

They don't seem to get Walker or James will play as the right sided centre back in a back three.

Michael Dawson and Darren Bent are now earnestly explaining it looks like Southgate will play three at the back. I wonder what tipped them off.

Can't put a value on that sort of insight.

I reckon he has been told to take him or has taken him to stop him getting shit for not selecting him.

If England fail to create the press would go fucking mad about not selecting him. Hopefully he gets to play in the 3rd group game and England go out early so he can have a rest.
