I'd be happy if Trent never played for England again, to be honest. It's a shame the players don't seem to realise international football is shite.

Love the major tournaments but everything else is absolute shite.

We need to find out if TAA can play as a midfielder because as good as he is going forward, as bad he almost is at being a defender and he will need to have someone around him helping with his defensive duties.

To be honest and being wise after the event but I couldn’t understand why Klopp made such a big deal over him being dropped from England

1 it’s up to Southgate who to pick no matter what you think of him

2. Bringing it up was just putting pressure on Trent as the first bad game and it’s “Gareth told you so”

And 3 The manager should be made up if he’s left out at this stage of the season

He had a good 10 minutes that ended with a flashy defensive interception.  They scored from the resulting throw in and it was down to him not following Vinicius for the 100th time of the game.

Alisson should’ve kept it out, it was a nothing shot. Ball shouldn’t have got to Vinicius anyway. You have an agenda against Trent. Try look past it. He made one costly mistake in the first half. He was absolute fine in the second half. He was one of our better players in fact.

If you can’t see how his body shape, attitude and defensive awareness is a constant issue then you’re completely blind.  He got absolutely roasted by Vinicius all game.  Instead of trying to get a grip of him he just hid and let him get in the blind side of our inexperienced centre back or in the channel between them.  He had a major part in all 3 goals we conceded.  He come out with a rocket up his arse and showed some intent.  They scored and his head completely went.  He spent the rest of the half trying to cause a fight.  He was absolutely Shite.

He gave Southgate a lot to be happy about that's for sure.

When you've slow CBs then playing then Trent is a disaster zone because there's no cover for when he gets caught on one of his trips forward. Gomez and VVD have the pace to cover him until he gets back.

One thing that is really worrying is how badly he reacts to mistakes. He really slumps; so much so that he needs to be taken off. He needs a few chats with the mentality doctors.

I love trent but why is it so often that a team playes a one two past him and he is just jogging home slowly, is it because hes fucked from running so much up and down the pitch or does he just say "fuck it, im not catching them anyway"

How often does Salah help him out? esp last night as he let Mendy do what he wanted, we know Trent ain't the best defensively so maybe we should protect him?

It's surely the responsibility of our midfield (ideally Henderson) and defence (ideally Matip) to cover his side. Where do you expect Salah to be when Trent's camped in the final third, for example?

When it comes to the basics of defending, he's slow to react to what's happening around him and affords attackers too much space. It's like he imagines he has more time or speed than in reality. Or he just switches off.

To be fair to Mo, he's caused more problems when he has come back to help out the defence so maybe best he doesnt? Anyway, Id be expecting one of fab, gini or Keita to be doing that.

Trent's 'problem' is he likes to get forward at every opportunity and no doubt we encourage that. We cannot knock the lad for that. But, it does leave us exposed if he's up against an organised, good team.

Poor concentration and a total lack of focus on the job in hand of defending the space, reading the line, knowing where his back four is and the little matter of where the opposition are located, the ones in the white, or those not in red, depending on how he wants to look at it.

Not a baby out with the bath water moment, but he really needs to look at some of his game right now as he's regressed in the last 12 months and he needs to take a long hard look at himself.

Salah put more than a shift in.  He was pressing all night.  I honestly wonder what game people watch.  For the goals we conceded I don’t see how Salah could help Trent other than playing right back for him.  He doesn’t follow his man for the first goal and cover his centre back from a long ball.  He makes a brain dead header from another long ball and on the third just let’s their left winger drift into an unmarked position while he picks nobody up and doesn’t tell the centre back he’s coming.  These were just the goals as well.  Never mind the other countless brain dead defensive position and decisions he made all night.  It’s basic schoolboy stuff he gets wrong time and time again and it’s baffling that it’s not being addressed.

Obviously when he bombs forward one of the mids should cover but I'm on about last night where it looked like they targeted the left, where Salah didn't press the left back, Salah left him exposed last night. We all know he isn't the best defender and teams obviously know this too yet we constantly leave him exposed... Obviously Naby badly let everyone down yesterday..

I expect Salah to put a shift in and help out when he sees a full back moving past him... I thought and think a 1st half heat map shows that most of their attack etc was down the left and the battleground was there and personally I don't feel Salah did enough to stop the left back, don't think it helped that we let Kroos drop back and dictate things without pressuring him either

Well, just as we can't have it both ways with Trent (expecting him to operate as both defender and winger), we can't have it both ways with Salah either (expecting him to score most of our goals and protect our full back). Still, a certain standard of defending in the former case and goalscoring in the latter is the basic respective requirement. And Trent's defending, unlike Salah's goalscoring, is substandard.

With Henderson and Matip around, the team can compensate for some individual weaknesses of Trent and Salah. So, their absence is obviously a major problem...

but we know this as does every other team ffs, therefore surely you recognise it and help him out. There's a reason they targetted the left and it isn't just Trent.

Playing Milner on the right of the midfield three would be my suggestion. Not playing Salah deeper.

You’ve posted a still frame of a full match you fucking crank.  The funniest thing about it is that it appears to show Salah high up the pitch stopping Madrid building an attack and forcing them to hit a long ball which funnily enough is called pressing you imbecile.  Or do you think pressing involves not pressing and following the full back down the line?   Hysterical.

The quandary with Trent (and Robertson too) is that both were part of the most obstinate defence in club history. So we know both are highly capable defenders in the right system, which they trained for over several years. You therefore need to look at what has changed around them that may have prompted lapses in form.
