“But showing discipline (in the transfer market) and staying true to your principles is really important, and that’s one of the reasons we didn’t add to the squad. We tried. And the same goes for all windows."

If the principles are to not sign players that cost more than you're any where near willing to pay (probably their true value), then showing discipline is extremely easy. Coming up with excuses to cover up this principle is what requires discipline and imagination.

What was disciplined about missing out on Zielinski for £12m but being happy to pay £25m for the second choice in that position in Wijnaldum?

What was disciplined about spending £35m on a winger in the last year of his contract when it was obvious he'd be fourth choice at best here this season?

And the most obvious one, what's disciplined about allowing your 23 year old German international all the time in the world to develop on the pitch, while letting him run his contract down and leave on a free?

It's quite long winded but I think we could probably just about get that on a trophy.

Don't suppose it is has entered your mind that - the reason he was first choice was because he was £12m!

Isn't that what you criticise them for?

Not sure why everyone is in a flap over this - it is in relation to last year, and a point to take is that they will strengthen.

But, It would seem they have to have a good hard look at the criteria for signings. After the summer I don't think 'sticking to your principles' is going to work, or be accepted by fans.

And you think they will have 'a good hard look at the criteria for signings'? Or basically do what they've done every year and spin some bollocks about it being a difficult time to buy, the fact that they are fucking useless at getting deals done in the summer is why there is so much of a groan at January.

If they'd got the vvd and keita deals done during summer I think you'd struggle to find anyone complaining if we did fuck all in January.

As it stands were desperate for players to come in, which teams we want to deal with will know and set prices accordingly, where's the business sense in that?

Or is the business sense in that they then claim it's too difficult and hamper the management by doing fuck all to address the squads problems therefore saving any outlay.

If we added them to our squad as it is now then the only thing we would be complaining about is a fucking nose-bleed from being 10 points clear

Liverpool have identified Kara Mbodji as a defensive solution if they fail in their long-term pursuit of Virgil van Dijk.

The Anderlecht defender has impressed for the Belgian side and Senegal, with team-mate and Reds star Sadio Mane bound to play a pivotal role in his decision.

The 28-year-old is worth £10m, report Turkish Football, who add that Brighton are also keen.

Serie A and Turkish Super Lig clubs have also expressed an interest and watched Mbodji in action against South Africa.
