It wouldn't happen because of his age and resale value, but he'd be the best player in the league again for a season or two.

And for that reason, do want.

He didn't have much pace to lose. He's a genius. That isn't going to disappear at 32 or 33.

He'd have to behave himself. Our beloved media would be on permanent alert to crucify him for any messing around.

Just saw two links in the beeb gossip page, both reported in the Mirror. One said Man City will compete with us for VVD in January, especially now that Stones is injured and they need reinforcements in defence. The other link was again unfortunately Man City, saying they will try to get Goretzka.

Now, I don’t mind it when they hammer Man Utd and do well with their billions, but those two players would help us close the gap, but if they go to Man City they will be over the hill and far away. Grrrr...

'Need reinforcements in defence' the window after they spend a quarter of a billion on their defence shows the the massive 'gulf' in spending power.

It’s depressing! It feels a bit like we’re Oliver Twist, hoping for some crumbs.

Hopefully we’re more advanced in deals for VVD and Goretzka than we might imagine, due to the Klopp factor. But to be honest, the Guardiola factor is just as strong - plus they can offer more money and an immediate and sustained chance of competing for the biggest prizes.

Then again, they can’t have all the players, can they?

VVD signing for city would get fsg right off the hook. Oh well, woe is us, we tried, honestly we really did, but we just can't compete with their money. Despite if we weren't such useless cunts we'd have signed him in the summer. It's almost too perfect for fsg, they don't want to spend big, they don't want to spend in January, so blaming an ogre from down the m62 is just too perfect.

STURRIDGE WANTS OUT

It’s fair to say that if Daniel Sturridge can find a club in January and score ten Premier League goals between then and the end of the season, he will be on the plane to Russia with England. It seems the penny has dropped with the Liverpool striker, who was not used in Saturday’s 3-0 win over Southampton, as the back page of the Daily Mirror claims that he wants away from Merseyside.

The Mirror claim that Sturridge’s availability will spark a ‘mid-season scramble’, with the striker hopeful that Liverpool will put a realistic price on his head. They do not mention any possible suitors, but surely Everton, West Ham and Newcastle would be very interested at the right price

MAN CITY EYE VAN DIJK

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola admitted on Saturday that he was looking for January reinforcements even before John Stones was ruled out for the next four-six weeks. “We are going to think about it, but not because John is in that position,” said the Spaniard.

The man they could target is Southampton’s Dutch defender Virgil van Dijk, who did have his heart set on a move to Liverpool but could be tempted to join City’s march towards the Premier League title. It’s fair to say that Southampton would rather do their £60m business with City

Man City are looking to bring in 22-year-old Schalke midfielder Leon Goretzka, who is out of contract at the end of the season and has also caught the attention of Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea…Liverpool and Tottenham are watching Sheffield United’s 20-year-old Wales midfielder David Brooks

Not really, would just underline the strategic failing in not preparing more targets and landing a centre back at the time regardless.  I mean, it's not like our backline is so strong we couldn't accommodate two centre backs over the course of a season...

Pep is starting to do what Mourinho at Chelsea did. Just buying players to keep them away from rivals.

A lot of young players dont seem to give a fuck either as they know they'll make a fortune and if they want game time City will just loan them out anyway.

Its a system thats needed fixing for years.

Not sure Pep is doing that to be honest, I think he's just replacing all the old fuckers in the squad with top quality young players.

Toure out, Goretzka in. He did the same with the fullbacks, and goalkeeper in the summer, and of course Jesus.

If they suddenly have 200 22-25 year olds out on loan, fair enough. Bar Joe Hart, I think the rest of them are fairly unheard of youngsters though (that didn't cost 12 squillion pounds either).

By all accounts City are playing some great football, but unless we're playing them, I just can't be arsed watching any of their games or even highlights. They're just another nail in the coffin of everything that was once good about the sport.

Agree with them (and the likes of chelsea/PSG) ruining the game but they are playing very well. Can see them winning the Champions League. The prem is already a foregone conclusion.

Would love to see us knock them out of Europe. Yep, the league looks done and dusted.
