What happens if we play Leipzig? and what happens if he gets injured?

I'm pretty certainly we won't be paying Leipzig anything this season, merely agreeing to meet the player's release clause plus a sweetener to rubber-stamp the deal next summer. For Leipzig, they have the player for another 12 months (which is what they and Rangnick wanted all along) as they try to challenge again for the Bundesliga and also play in the CL, and they get a bit more money than they would have got next summer. For us, we would have locked down the player for next season and avoided having to go up against a lot of other interested teams. I'm also pretty certain the club can cancel the agreement if the player suffers a serious injury or does something like failing a drug test etc. Liverpool wanted Keita this summer but if the agreement is true, it's the best possible compromise.

Good to see the club being pro-active for a change. A deal for next season is the best precautionary option if we can't get him in now. Hopefully, nothing to do with an eventual Coutinho or Can departure though. I want a Phil-Keita-Can/Lallana midfield.

Well done, Michael Edwards. Your player valuation system is still shite.
