It says that his team had a goal disallowed at the other end just before that. He thought the goal had been given so went to get a quick drink, totally unaware that play had restarted with a free kick and that the opponents were on the attack. It's not clear from that BBC video (which has no commentary on it) or the video I saw a few days ago (which had commentary and where the crowd was louder), but I'm wondering how much of a shout he got from his defenders.

The Bundesliga has a proper highlights reel of goalkeeper gaffes, in most cases dafter than anything you see over here. Even the elite keepers like Kahn and Neuer have dropped some proper clangers. There's one where Leverkusen's goalkeeper at the time (Hans-Jorg Butt) was their regular penalty taker. He took a penalty and scored for his team. As he ambled back to his area celebrating the goal, everyone else had got ready to kick off again, and the opponents hit a shot from the centre circle that sailed over the still-celebrating goalkeeper and into the net.

Manchester United’s money men already regret the January signing of Alexis Sanchez and feel they are not yet getting value for money from the player, according to a report.

United secured the signing of the Chilean from Arsenal last month in a deal that makes him the Premier League’s highest-paid player on a reported £500,000 a week.

However, Sanchez has struggled to find his best form since moving to Old Trafford and one goal in seven appearances represents a disappointing return so far.

Graeme Souness was critical of Sanchez following United’s 2-1 win over Chelsea on Sunday, accusing him of ‘going missing’ and now a report has gone one step further by suggesting the senior figures at the club regret striking the deal.

That’s according to Spanish publication El Pais who have suggested that United executives believe they errored by moving to sign Sanchez in January and the deal may have been done to satisfy Jose Mourinho.

The paper claims the officials, in London at the time to expressed ‘regret’ over the signing of Sanchez during a dinner party in London. Club officials were in the capital to participate in the auction of Premier League television rights, feel they have paid over the odds for the player and would have got a better deal had they waited until the summer.

Furthermore, they are said to not be happy at paying him such lofty wages, nor Mourinho’s decision to sacrifice Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who was allowed to move in the opposite direction.

United also paid the player a huge signing-on fee, while agents’ fees are also said to have made the capture of the player an eight-figure lay-off for the club. Had they waited until the summer, it is claimed, they feel they could have signed Sanchez for far less and perhaps not had to sacrifice Mkhitaryan in the process.

It’s also claimed Sanchez’s arrival broke the strict wage structure the club had previously stuck to rigidly and fear the player’s £500,000 a week salary could cause tension within the dressing room.

And finally, it’s suggested the club officials also feel Mourinho’s transfer market strategy is far too much about the short-term and want Sanchez to start delivering quickly to avoid further question marks being raised over the player.

It’s of course worth pointing out that nothing official has come from the club and the noises Mourinho makes suggest he is happy with the player’s contribution so far.

Here's hoping. Jesseh is doing the business for them and should be demanding £300k per week. Pogba and his agent should be kicking off about a lack of respect, to be resolved only by doubling the Frenchman's salary. Fuck it, they should ALL be demanding a pay rise, including Sanchez.

More ridiculously pricey and overblown short-term signings of 30-somethings please.

Wonder how much Drogba would cost now?

Saw this just now on the bbc website. Absolutely no idea how it happens but watching the final angle of the reply with the keeper ‘set’ in a goalkeeper stance two yards behind the line and in the left hand side of the goal, motionless, just looks exactly like a classic fifa/pes glitch happening in real life.

Worth a watch.

I remember when Everton knocked Moenchengladbach out of the European Cup in 1971. We drew the away leg first 1-1 at their gaff. Howard Kendall equalised from distance when he noticed that the German keeper was bending down picking up toilet rolls.( Throwing toilet rolls was the in thing in the 60's and 70's before the cultured Everton fans decided cushions were an improvement)

UEFA have said that from next season onwards some Champions League games will kick off at 17:55, similar to how it is already in the EL.

Absolute garbage. Obviously done to squeeze every last penny out of advertising for the broadcasters.

It’s a joke, I never get home from work in time for those early kick offs

They get two TV windows on each night which will boost exposure and advertising revenue, but also the local kick-off times in some places have needed to be looked at for a while now. Clubs in countries where it gets cold and dark early (like teams from Moscow in November/December) usually end up hosting fixtures at an earlier time anyway, but in some cases, a 2-3 hour time difference to the UK (say, a match in Athens or Istanbul) means a match kicking off at 7:45pm UK time is actually kicking off at 10:45pm local time.

I don’t care about any of that though. Midweek European games should be at 19:45. Fuck all those other countries.
