BREAKINGVan Dijk to undergo surgery

Liverpool centre-back Virgil van Dijk needs surgery on a knee ligament injury sustained in the 2-2 draw at Everton on Saturday. 

The 29-year-old Netherlands defender was unable to continue following a rash challenge by Toffees keeper Jordan Pickford in the first half. 

It is unclear how long he will be out for with the anterior cruciate ligament injury. He went for a scan before a specialist confirmed the extent of the injury.

But like I said, to be honest, we've been shite with him in defense for a while and not just recently. We need Alisson, Thiago, Hendo and the front 3 to be fit for the majority to still have a shot at big trophies, but I think we can manage if we change some things up at the back. Get more compact, play a bit deeper, more counters.

The Dutch defender spent time with a specialist on Sunday, reviewing scans and deciding on a plan of treatment, for what is understood to be a grade three tear of his anterior cruciate ligament.

 

That is the worst level, with the ligament torn in half, and the surgery is designed to restructure the ligament.

Oxlade Chamberlain did both anterior and cruciate ligament if I'm correct
