And yet Saints seem to be able to do just that. He’s not the first either. We seem to to tap their pool of talent quite regularly.

They’ve ended up with some woeful players too. That Boufal guy is one of the worst players in the league, and he was bought to replace Mane. Cedric isn’t great at defending. Fraser Forster is worse than both our goalies. None of their strikers are good enough either,

Calling him 'wank' absolutely ridiculous, saying he's improved our back line with his aerial prowess is a fair point as is saying he's probably not hit the standards he will set himself in his short time at the club so far. Has he been brilliant? I'd say no,not yet but its obvious that he's added a fair bit of solidity to defence already with better performances expected.

Lamela is Lovrens man during that exchange and he loses him which forces VVD to try and clear the bounce. Can't see how he can be blamed for that one.

Let's be honest he could do with a better partner but id concentrate on blowing the bank on the best keeper we can get because no matter how good you defend you'll always get the odd shot getting through, if those shots are let in more often then not then your fighting a losing battle.

I've thought for ages our garbage midfield should take a share of the blame for the goals we conceded, they leave the defence exposed all the time.

Seeing as we mark zonally and not man to man I do not really see how we can blame Lovren as Lamela moves. End of the day it does not matter because in the spirit of the law van Dijks contact is not intentional and Lamela goes to ground like he has been shot. The ref emphatically waves play on but the lino signals a foul. I really do not know on what grounds Moss decides to change his decision given his emphatic waving away initially of spurs claims.

Let's hold fire on these opinions until AFTER the weekend hey.

Spirit of the Law? If you welly someone in the leg in the box you can't be surprised when they drop like a sack of shit.

I originally thought he'd pulled his leg away but he doesn't, it's the force of VVD's toe hitting Lamela's calf that makes it look that way. Can't really complain about the pen.

The ball comes into VVD who fucks the challenge for the header up (At that time Lovren is jostling with Lamela so clearly he's his fucking man) he then tried to rectify his first fuck up and compounds it but Lovren should do more to stop Lamela getting there. They were both culpable for it.

Southampton, who are in a relegation fight, have had their fair share of bad guys.

Lovren went to Southampton for an estimated 8.5 million quid in 2013, from Lyon. Just two years and 31 appearances later, we pay 20 million quid for him.

Once again, with an already established career at Lyon, where the hell was our bid? Did Lovren choose Saints over us? I don’t think so.

French league is soft as hell, and doing well there does not correlate with success in the Prem very well.

The French League pumps out big talent time and time again.

The problem was that Lovren wasn't even good in France, He made ridiculous mistakes left and right, Southampton took a gamble with him because he'd been a highly rated prospect when he was younger. It's his lone season at Southampton that seemed to convince everyone he was top class.

Yeah.

I mean, who would want the likes of Ousmane Dembele, Kylian Mbappe, Bernardo Silva, Eden Hazard, etc.?

Oh, you mean defenders and DMs? Yeah, who would want the likes of Umtiti, Marquinhos, Rabiot, Fabinho, Seri, Kimpembe, Tielemans, NDombele, etc.?

He was never going to hit the ground running under the circumstances.  Nor was he singlehandedly (how the fucks that not a word) going to fix the defence.

You cant hit the ground running any better than scoring the winner in a Derby in-front of the Kop and just generally being a fucking machine when he has played.

Not to mention players like Kante and Mahrez, who played in their equivalent of the Championship, and legends like Henry, Essien, Petit, Pires, Petr Cech, etc...

He’s done alright so far. I like him.

He’s come over after not playing a whole lot, into what is essentially Lovren/Matip/Nobody’s back 4.

Next season, it will be his back 4. He will have a preseason to get everyone in line and will boss the defence like we haven’t seen in years.
