Is there really a huge disparity between the leagues?

That said, playing a three day minor counties game or a county second eleven game would be better preparation than playing in the IPL or the like.

That's why I feel sorry for Roy , I don't think he's got what it takes to be an opening test batsmen but since the first test to now he hasn't spent any time in the middle and yet the media expect him to turn up and suddenly score a shit load of runs.

In the old days in between tests a batsmen could go back to his county and play a competitive match to try and get some confidence/form.

I know it's different now with the quick turnovers but there was a 10 day gap between the first and second test to allow him some sort of match

No money in it.

And therefore those in charge of the game don't care.

I think Roots plan is to chase 400 instead of 320. Archer gets a wicket as I type. Great Idea from Root to wait so long to bring him into the attack.

So glad Bairstow insists on keeping. You know, with him being one of the best outfielders in the world and a shit wicketkeeper.

Should be grateful he's still in the team.

He's had a shit morning, his place is in jeopardy, you'd think he would concentrate more. These ECB contracts make certain players far too comfortable.

Agreed, mate.

I think a few of them think they're better than they are as well.

Dining out on the WC victory mate. Preparation for the Ashes has been pathetic, added to the fact certain players thing they are untouchable due to that WC victory, and you get what we are witnessing.

On these short balls. Batsman know it isn't going anywhere near the stumps so why don't they use their feet to get out of the way instead of just moving their head? Pathetic really.

Stand up and take the test. Move your feet in a split second and you can move a few feet out of the way. Now stand still and sway your head, you'll be lucky if it moves 9 inches.

‘Dining out on the WC’? Are you mad?  It was only a few weeks ago.  Nearly as daft as your idea about rain days in tests.

I don’t think it’s  that easy mate.

Was on that one before. Might switch back.

Gower now sounding like a chipmunk as well.

Steady enough stream. Dog needs to go out, Maybe's we'll be batting when I get back. Roy will have played a glorious stroke before wafting at a wide ball to nick it to the slips.

I've played the game, some of the bowlers I faced in the forces were pretty damn quick. We were taught to use your feet to avoid the short stuff, it works a lot better than just trying to bend out of the way with no footwork.

Roy is going to grind his way to a match winning 150. He's going to leave the ball immaculately for the first 15 overs, cash in when the ball gets old, rotate the strike well, then finally farm the strike protecting the tail when we chase down 355, nine down.

It'll go down as the greatest innings ever by an English batsman. He'll cement his place in the team for the next eight years, averaging 57 in test cricket.
