Giving Smith easy runs here, this is where we are missing out on Anderson. I'd bring Broad and Woakes back for a quick burst.

200 up for the Aussies, Partnerships happen but we missed a strike bowler to deal with the tail. Broad and Woakes were excellent but needed backing up better, they can't do it all. Still, if you said Australia would be 200/8 after winning the toss we'd all be happy. If anything, this partnership shows that the pitch has runs in it for batsmen who adapt.

England's problem is that instead of trying to get Smith out when they were 122/8 they were just happy to try and keep him off the strike.

I’m not surprised they did that, they don’t know how to get him out.

Well they do and have, when you are 8 down even a player of Smith's quality is under a huge amount of pressure. They should have peppered the cheating cunt.

If this was the opening Ashes test in Brisbane or Perth, and England were 120-something for 8 in their first innings, they would almost certainly be skittled out for about 130. The Aussies always manage to find one or two players that stick around and be a pain in the arse with the bat even if the rest of the side have been shit, turning a poor innings into a respectable one.
