There's only been one drawn Ashes test in England since 2005. I can't see any match being drawn in this series unless there is some serious rain.

Australia is a flawed side but they are better than this England set-up.

I've had a fiver on 1-4.

With the Ashes running into mid September I reckon there is a huge chance that at least one test match will be more or less rained off.

The Root/Denly situation was explained as not wanting an inexperienced front three with 11 caps between them all batting together , in the hope that having Root in from first man down will help the person at the other end.

Not sure I am totally enamoured with it as you could argue that it is making your top batsman more vulnerable instead of helping the other three.

If all are fit, who plays out of Woakes, Archer and Wood? I'm assuming Anderson and Broad are automatic picks.

I would personally play Archer, but think a Woakes / Broad decision may be coming.

I like Wood but have him third of these three

Aussies win the toss and decide to bat. Overcast conditions, so hopefully we can make early inroads and cause an Aussie collapse.

Good toss to lose perhaps.

Depends, you don't want to be chasing too many in the 4th innings at Edgbaston. This first session is so important for both teams.

With a soft batting order out of form they are probably worried about playing Bowlers who can bat a bit, hence the fact Archer misses out in the first test imo. Edgbaston is also not renowned for favouring blistering pace. Hopefully we'll see Archer come in for the next test.

Agree with that & I think Archer wasn't originally expected to be in contention for the First test anyway so would be a big risk with a long series in front of us.

Aussies dropped Starc for much the same reason (apart from the fact he was probably expected to start). Accurate bowlers will always get more out of the Edgbaston pitch than just flinging pace at it. It has been a very good start for England, just need to get another before lunch and we'll be in the box seats. Can't let Smith get away.

For those watching Via streams the usual ones are a bit shit this morning. This one is however stable and very good quality.
