Australia have to have a chance in the WC just by virtue of having an attack capable of having the opposition 10-3. Otherwise England and India are head and shoulders above everyone else. As Sir Roger says, one wobble can cost you and England have form (Champions Trophy 2 years ago, CT final v India, WT20 final just from the last 6 years or so) - that makes picking a winner difficult.

The format means the 4 strongest teams should go through. I’d expect that to be India, England, Aus and NZ, but it’s such a competitive event that WI, Pakistan, SA all have chances.

I’d expect Afghanistan to win at least once. SL look weak and Bangladesh are pretty unpredictable.

England will win if they can avoid collapses - they can defend 325 v most sides and should consistently get 350. They can chase anything. The danger is coming up against Aus or SA attack, being 10-3 and having to rebuild to (say) 250. I’m not sure they have the bowlers to knock a good side over bowling 2nd under pressure.

Playing my first game in two years today. Anybody else dragging their sorry old arses out for a few games this year?

Played for the first time in 9 years last week at what turned out to be a thankfully very low level. Managed to get the ball down the other end off a short run and had to go in at the end - a stirring 2* from about 8 balls. Enjoyed it. Only bowled 3 overs in an evening game and could hardly move for days. God knows how people play a full day into their 50’s.
