My dad got banned from that pub in the 70s. He was absolutely wasted & left his wallet in there. He "tapped" on the window to get his mates' attention & put his fist through the window!

When I went to university in 2006 he took me to this pub & got away with it.

The Crown? Used to spend time in there back in the 80s and 90s having a few beers after the match waiting for the train back home. Changed its name now,I think?

Nice one. Haven't been in there for years. I don't even drink now.

Before some pedant comes along, it correct name is the Crown Hotel.

Just looking at that photo again, apart from the Crown, the two properties attached to it on the right and the Adelphi are the only things still here. The Las Vegas arcade, Copperas Hill post Office, the Ribble/Skelhorne Street bus station, Punch & Judy cafe, the office block above it and the Irish American Bar are all gone now.

I'm fucked if I can remember the name of the office block above the Punch & Judy and I don't want to google it.

Wasn't Tony Harris menswear shop just further along from the Punch & Judy?

Concourse House.

I was based there for my first job in 1984.

I'd literally just go into bed when I remembered it but still wasn't sure. Spent the next couple of hours tossing and turning wondering if I was was right or not.

Looking back, how fucking grim looking was that tower and the row of shops that sat in front of Lime Street station facade.

Tony Harris is all I remember, fashionable menswear, and the tower of course but I can't remember it being grim.

I suppose the subway was but maybe I've got rose tinted nostalgia.

There was also a leather shop. Think that's moved to Central Station now.

It did look grim.
