I'm sure the Golden Phoenix Chinese Restaurant was on the 2nd floor there. Might be a building back but that definitely looks like it. Me and my mum used to go there for dinner when we were shopping in town.

The the Golden Phoenix was over the other side of the road I think it was above a camping shop although looking at this picture I do kind of remember having to go up stairs to get to the restaurant (which is kind of obvious as it's on another floor)

Some stunning houses in Toxteth. It's always funny seeing people's reactions to it when they've never been before as they're expecting the Bronx but some of the houses would be worth about five million if they were in the smoke.

Some of the houses in the Bronx do cost a fortune - some belters there too

And no boarding or netting at ground level to stop people climbing on it.

I think we can confidently say that this predates the 1974 Health & Safety at Work Act.

Haha deffo, mind you we still used single handrails up to the mid 80s and then it was ok as long as you had brick guards.

I once saw a picture of a Scaffolder standing on the protruding ledger, using a podger about 100 ft above the street with a pair of slip ons on, no harness etc, mad.

Isn't the bronx becoming the next part of NY city to be socially cleansed of poor people so those with money can move in ?

Yep, but it's a bit like Toxteth in that it's near to the centre - really easy to get to from downtown Manhattan, and it has real cultural history and hotspots of its own.

Brooklyn was gentrified 10 years or more ago.  Artisan sourdough yoghurt and bars full of low watt Edison bulbs etc

Have you been banned on Twitter again Stig?

Yeah 2 weeks ago they suspended my account for replying to Donald Trump JnR "fuck off and go and kill some defenceless animals you scumbag"

Apparently I was encouraging harm. Obviously a load of right wing Trump snowflakes reported it. Appealed but still haven't had a reply.
