that's the street there, Elliot Street. Lime Street at the top, and you can just make out Blacklers on the right in the distance. See, no steps!

Now I know. Hard to reconcile with what is there now, which is what makes these photos so interesting. Much obliged for your insight.

Professor Codman lived in Tuebrook, I paid him £65 in 1999 to do his Punch and Judy at my daughters Christening in the Birk House ( Newsham Park ) on West Derby Rd. The show was 45 mins, he stuffed his face and got a load of ale bought for him. Easiest £65 he ever made.

That's the way to do it !

That said Mr Punch was wife beating bastard, and the Copper was always giving Punch the truncheon. What would today's tender hearts make of it.

Safe space for Judy?

I agree, it's fascinating.  I don't remember it looking like that, as I'm not sure I saw it before st john's precinct went up. It must have been taken from where Maplins  is now.

They left the baby with a crocodile. That is not a nurturing environment.

Striking firemen stand around a Christmas tree whilst on picket line duty in December 1977. The firefighters struck after a 30% pay rise was rejected by central government and negotiations failed. The strike lasted nine weeks and was eventually brought to an end with the firemen union securing a 10% raise in wages for its members.
