I don't think they'd risk it. They've been fattening up their investment for some time, and negotiating a sale under the cloud of fan ire would be less than ideal. I doubt they'll be here in a couple of years time, and selling Coutinho would be the kind of move they couldn't come back from. Patience has been wearing thin, and amid a fairly disappointing window thus far it'd be PR suicide.

The only way I see Coutinho going is if Klopp knows he can get Keita, and feels Coutinho should go if he isn't totally committed.

Hell... 90m for Keita.  Surely Leipzig would have to take that? 50m for VVD.  FSG's net spend would be 60m for the last 3 years.  Laughing.

If selling Coutinho woke the fans up, then it'd be well worth it.   We're not going anywhere under them if he stays anyway.  Slow suicide.

Shame, for Klopp properly backed could be the best we've had in a very long time.

Yeah forcing another set of owners out will end well. Do you think that will encourage anyone to buy the club?

What are we going to do with 100 mil? We aren't capable of signing anyone decent.

I know I've said this until it's tiresome but FSG have to know the situation they are in with the fans.  There is ZERO chance Coutinho will be sold unless they are 100% confident we can replace him with someone even better.

And the list of players who are better than Phil is very short, and the subset of them who are available is even smaller.  I'd say Mbappe might be the only one out there.

So if we sell Coutinho (say, for 120m), it will be concrete proof that either a)we are getting a megastar like Mbappe or b)the owners have lost their minds and are willing to risk fan revolt and Klopp leaving in a huff.  I'd say the latter is extremely unlikely to any rational observer, but some have prejudged the owners since they arrived and will think that b is actually more likely.

The elephant in the room is how selling Coutinho under Klopp is going to play out. If FSG did sell Coutinho (I dont think they will this window), they'll make Klopp look an absolute idiot (how many times has he said 'not for sale'?) and fuck his plans to build a team.

That doesnt even start to get close to pissing just about every fan off either.

When Klopp was manger at Dortmund and he lost some players he didn't want to lose I remember him saying about one player. I think it could have been gotze. That once the player wants to leave there's no point in trying to keep him.

If coutinihio pushed for a move Klopp could take the same view.

I don't think we will sell him at this late stage but would be surprised if he's not gone next season.

You do realize Klopp is completely fine with how the owners operate, right?

Would like to be as confident, but can't be when I've been expecting him to end up there for the last couple of seasons and Barca have got over 200mil to spend.

A week to go till the start of the season.

The risk of Klopp being made a fool of after saying Coutinho is going nowhere.

Lallana out for 3 months.

Not being able to convince a smaller club like Leipzig to sell their star player.

Still no VVD.

They'd be fucking lynched if the sold Coutinho now.

Plus, given how mad the market has been this summer, chances are we could get even more for Coutinho next summer if he has a storming WC.

That's more of a reason to sell than not to.  How else to fund it?

And that qualifier looks tricky all of a sudden.

We bid 66mill for Keita. Surely we could use some of that money no? Or has it got lost down the back of the sofa?

Yes but you don't know how that bid was structured, what it was contingent upon or any other detail relating to it.

And neither do you. Might well have been one lump sum. It's not like we're skint. Only those involved in the bid will know.
