Summer 2017 Transfer Thread

We gain absolutely nothing by selling him. People are trying to make this out as if it will happen because it makes business sense. It doesn't. The money in football is going through the roof. Selling someone now for a hundred million could look stupid next year. His value isn't going down because he's on a long contract. He isn't kicking up a stink either.

If we sold him we would struggle to replace him and likely finish outside of the top 4 and in turn cost ourselves millions. Never mind the amount of money that you get for finishing lower down the table anyway. We don't need the money and it would probably cost us more money to find a player who would end up being worse than him if we actually signed anyone anyway.

They aren't in the business of selling players and just extracting the money out either. He isn't going anywhere this summer.

Barcelona are keeping their options open as they plot ways they can replace Neymar. Having seen two bids turned down by Liverpool for their playmaker Philippe Coutinho, Barca are weighing up a third. (Marca)

Neymar's imminent arrival in the French capital could see Julian Draxler heading for the exit door. Reports claim the German, who appeared reinvigorated in Paris following his move from Wolfsburg, could be one of the victims of Neymar's arrival. (Le10Sport)

Football is officially finished. £200m!!! If they were paying this much for Messi you could maybe understand but Neymar??! No fucking chance. He is imo at best the 4th best player in the world and even though I realise the Qatari's have no concept of money this whole deal is fucking ludicrous.

I always wondered how things would turn out with one of the genuine top 5 players moved clubs.

Like how can any club buy a top player and comply with ffp?

Imagine a prime Messi moving, there's not a single club that could buy him without breaking the rules, he would just be too expensive.

Except Everton, obviously.

Owners who value footballing success more than they value money, imagine that.

Meanwhile, UEFA sources have told Sky Sports News that Neymar’s release clause cannot be blocked by La Liga because it’s a matter between the two clubs.

Is this a face-saving move by La Liga, on the verge of losing one of its star players, or could this become an unprecedented legal challenge?

La Liga is basically run for the exclusive benefit of Madrid and Barcelona, who have managed to convince the world that elite football begins and ends with El Clásico, and that everyone else is second best or lower.

Now here come PSG to prick their little self-inflated bubble, and the moaning is as predictable as it is hypocritical, because there are no bigger transfer bullies in world football than Barcelona. I wouldn't mind betting that they'll start spinning the idea that they were happy to offload Neymar, anything that would stop them acquiring a bit of thoroughly overdue humility.

The BBC have answered the question all of us wanted to ask. How many Freddos could you buy with the transfer fee? The answer is seven hundred and ninety two million.

Freddos are awesome. Good to see the BBC reporting something useful for a change.

Was laughing at this earlier :

Arabic Bein commentators are saying that we should be happy about Neymar going to PSG and that we should be proud of this as Arabs. Pathetic

If you didn't know already, Nasser Al Khelaifi (PSG's owner) is also the owner of Bein Sports. It's obvious why they're saying this.

The thing is where does Neymar go from PSG? No one else will pay his astronomical wages or will pay anywhere near what PSG will want back when he leaves them. After a year or two he'll realise that it's too easy in the league and they're not good enough or play competitively long enough to compete in the CL, he'll want to move again I think but where? He's stuck there now until his contract ends.

Having seen a chart of the various transfers to break the world record, the proposed Neymar deal would be the first time the record has more than doubled within the space of 12 months. The biggest knock-on effect of high transfer fees and salaries is that they get driven up lower down the chain too. Mediocre footballers are already switching clubs for ridiculous fees and being paid many millions per year.

Football rights and spending in football have been left to the whims of market forces but the sport genuinely needs some serious regulation that curbs spending and places some sort of cap on club's salary expenditure. The current system is creating wealth lower down the chain so nobody wants to wave goodbye to that sort of money, but it is also in effect ensuring that clubs will find it almost impossible to rise above their current status quo.

Was thinking the same earlier. I reckon he'll end up at Madrid.

I don't think he will give a shit. The problem is going to be PSG's. If he gets bored there which is highly likely. He's going to be sitting there at 29/30 taking the piss getting paid stupid money. He will end up being their version of Rooney.
