It would be right to aspire to a position where a club submits a formal bid for a player and, once given permission to speak to him, then agree terms.

It would be wrong to assume we're an outlier in the way the system currently works with the players interest tested before the clubs.

People hang off every word Paul Joyce says then slag off the club for leaking the information to him yet, in his own words, the majority of the information on Keita, as an example, is coming from abroad. Infact I believe he said very little is cominv from the club at the moment, Van Dijk was obviously different.

We say the club should shut up shop then complain that the absence of information is proof of the absence of work being done.

We criticise the club and say how disgraceful it is that we've tapped up a player and how our best players would be well within their rights to want a move to a less morally dubious club then try to ship them off to Barcelona without a hint of irony.

We judge the efficency of other clubs signings by the day they're signed and ours from the day they're first mooted as a target all while ignoring the endless headlines and assuming we should just put the money on the table like they do.

It's an endless stream of contradictions and willful ignorance to whats going on around us, we don't exist in a bubble, we aren't leaving players in limbo and jeopardising their futures, it isn't the most embarrasing thing to ever happen to a club, we're just going the the messy process of transfers the same as everyone else to varying degrees of success.

Even allowing for typo's or 'facts' you choose to put forward. It's a load of piss, shit, knob and bollocks and regardless of the 'mob' mentality 'spin' you're attempting to offset it with there's a legitimate gripe among the fanbase regarding the tiresome and repeated pattern of shouting from the rooftops who we are going to sign, leaking bullshit from the usual suspects, unsettling the player, upsetting the club they are registered with and then backing out double quick leaving the said player to swing in the wind as soon as their bluff is called.

I think most of us see that as a reoccurring pattern except you. I've asked this of you before without reply, so here it is again: Are you 'Cardie' on the payroll of LFC? Are you this years Jen Chang? (albeit without the shit through the letter-box threats?)

In other news, conte and chelsea thought re signing lukaku was nailed on. Somehow he's going to united.

Conte also wanted to sign van dijk, bonucchi and bakayoko. How are those deals panning out because Im hearing they're having the same trouble as us getting the deals over the line.

Arsenal want to sign lemar, theyve hadto up their bid to £40m but monaco are refusing to sell. They also want mahrez, leicester want £50m for him, arsenal dont want to pay more than £0m - £35m.

maureen was moaning the other day about not getting the deals for players he wants done.

Its not just us who cant get deals done. No fucker wants to sell unless they get their asking price which is often silly money.

It's true all over Europe this season, and I think it's going to come back to bite these medium-sized clubs in the arse.  Hard.

Sure, they may hold onto VVD for an extra season and then sell him for £60m next summer anyway, so it looks like a win for Southampton at the moment.  And sure, Keita may end up staying at RBL for an extra season before he's off to Atletico or Juve next summer for the full release clause of £48m, which again, looks like a win for his club.

But is it really a good thing?  You don't think the next player who moves to Southampton is going to dig his heels in at the thought of signing a long-term contract?  Not a chance.  I promise you that van Dijk is kicking himself, I would bet anything that when he signed the extension last winter he was verbally promised that when a £40m offer came in he could go, and that Southampton were just protecting their club for a good fee.

The next van Dijk they go to buy is going to watch what's happened here, realised that he's been forced to stay on £60k/week when we're offering £180k/week and missed out on over £6m of wages this year.  And if he gets injured or performs badly and somehow the wage offer next summer isn't as good that's even worse.

Keita the same - the next young African star that Red Bull pursue is going to remember what happened to Keita and think long and hard before he signs a deal with them that doesn't have a cast-iron release clause for reasonable money.

I know these clubs think "well, the market's mental, so if I have a top asset and I still have a few years left on the deal, I'll just wait until the offer is absolutely insane before I sell."  But the players aren't going to stand for that forever.  I would just bet that the next 20-year old who comes in is going to say "nah, I'll have a 3-year deal, or maybe a 4-year with a reasonable release clause.  Otherwise I'm not signing."

The trouble is that while the market adjusts we're left waiting to see what happens.  Southampton have every right to make the short-sighted decision to reject a £65m offer from us and force van Dijk to stay.  Until things are corrected, the clubs with long contracts in hand will have more leverage than they have in previous years.  It's just that using that leverage is going to come back to bite them a few years down the road.

I have no sympathy with players like VVD who think they can sign new contracts but never intend to see them through and are happy to go on a verbal promise if release. If they're thinking they want to move on, get a water tight release clause or shut the fuck up when someone comes calling. They're quick enough to want the guarantee of the new deal on new money and if they're shit or injured for 5 years, still expect to be paid. But it's meant to be alright for them to want to move when they feel like? I hate these modern footballers. They're all cunts.

"Hello. I'm the Wanky Shit Demon. Welcome to my wonderful world, my wonderful world of wank. And shit.

You summoned me here, Mr Henry, and so you have three wishes. If you really want Virgil Van Dijk then just use one of your wishes. I will make you a wonderful Virgil Van Dijk. A Virgil Van Dijk made of wank. And shit. I've done it before. His name was Titus Bramble."

United about to sign Lukaku for £100m. That can't be right. I only read about their interest start of the week...

I'd suggest you do more reading but not sure it'd help.

Though it does prove transfers get easier the further down your list you go.

Fair point, and after signing Morata so quickly without any hassle. But nah, they were linked with him for ages and have paid way, way beyond his value. No doubt if we throw 180m at RBL, they'll cave pretty quickly. I wouldn't want us to quickly sign Lukaku for 90m.

Lukaku will make a big difference against 80% of the defenders in the league. He mightn't trouble a Bonucci or Ramos.

It shows United have the money and have the hunger to spend it. I wouldn't be surprised if they sign Morata also.

We have got Salah, who is class and the lad from chelsea who has great talent. Not bad if we are being honest.

I think a lot of the frustration is this fear which is justified given past transfer windows that we won't really pay top dollar for the players that will make a difference,be they Vvd or keita. Our technique seems to be unsettle players and hold back on a bid rather than speak with a club and build up goodwill.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-4525808/Premier-League-earn-billions-thanks-foreign-TV-deals.html

Looks like the money is going to keep flooding in, hence clubs taking massive gambles on big fees, they know they're good for the foreseeable.

But that simply leads to clubs like Leipzig 'demanding' £70m for a promising player. If we pay it then the TV deal means fuck all, it'll be business as usual in terms of the pecking order for signings. Sure we can offer £70m, but so can Spurs, so can Everton, so can West Ham. The money is there, it's just a case of what percentage of the TV deal you want to spend up front.

That TV money can't all be spent on transfer fees, if has to improve facilities and cover wages. Wages have increased by 7% in the PL since 2015 and will jump again now.

I don't think the bad guys are FSG here, or foreign clubs at large, because we've seen with Salah that value can be found, and the amounts touted for Rudiger and others seem reasonable. The problem here is that RB Leipzig are changing their game plan and Red Bull have ambition. It's no coincidence that RB went into club ownership, they're aiming to become a leading force in football. Their set-up across the two clubs impressive, it's a huge investment and they're not aiming to tread water and just exist in mid-table Bundesliga. Qualifying for the CL has been a watershed for them and its not about income, it's about protecting and nurturing their trajectory, and now is not the time to sell their best player to anyone for a nice profit.

I think we have all accepted kieta won't happen it's brought an inner peace. We shall move on with a newer ambition to annoy the shit out of another club.

"Shit it's Liverpool on the line, I was hoping it would be PPI"

Or "Shit it's Liverpool on the line, I was hoping it would be that Chinese payday loan company Everton used"
