That corner was incredible, the knuckle ball pass to Milner as well across the pitch was sensational, he’s such a talent and he’s a local lad, loved him soaking it all up last night doing a lap of the pitch, he’s certainly living the dream...

go on lad

It's not the time to be knit picking about what he can't do. Put your energy into figuring out how he seen that last night, he was looking in the other direction.

He's boss-eyed?

I disagree on the Gomez at full back thing.  Gomez is better in the air, quicker than him and is better at tackling and reading attacking players running at him.  He’s just far better defensively (even though he was all over the show when he come on last night) and I don’t know how you can watch them and think otherwise.  He’s played the majority of his career at full back and has looked better than Trent as a whole at various points when they’ve both been vying for the position.  It’s not like shoving Lovren there.  Now I think most people would agree Trent is superior as a whole there because he is obviously far better attacking and in possession and the argument that Klopp should have just gone with him regardless especially because Gomez is only just back from injury is a strong one considering what we seen last night.

In the long run I don’t think pace will be a problem for him either.  He will get better at defending so it becomes less of an issue as with the players you mentioned.  At the start of the season I didn’t want him starting and he didn’t start the season well at all.  I thought this was the best chance of winning the league in years and I didn’t think it was the best time to be playing a young player who would be up and down, learning and making mistakes.  Even though he had the potential to be world class.  Sometimes I think I’ve been right and we’ve just got away with it but on the whole I’ve been wrong.  He hasn’t just been a work in progress that we would see the benefit of in future years. He’s now a massive reason we are within a game of winning the league and a game of winning the champions league in this season.

I still don’t think Klopp’s decision to leave him out last week was a “resting” or rotation.  It was the biggest game of the season.  It was tactical and I think it was for the reasons I outlined above.  Whether you agree with them or not it happened and it wasn’t me making them.

Agree to disagree on Gomez then. He's a special prospect at centre half if he can stay fit but he's nothing special at full back. It reminds me a bit of when people used to say Ibe was better than Sterling and they'd say he was stronger, had a better shot etc... You can look at those attributes in isolation but you've got to assess the whole package and for me Trent is a much better full back. Gomez has looked his best for us, by far, as a centre back next to Virgil.

Pointless going on really about why Klopp left him out in the first leg. It may have been because he's a more defensive minded player and that's how he wanted to set the team up. It could be fitness related like he said it was with Hendo who he also left out and who I also expected to be starting. Guess we'll never know.

It’s not just that Mendez-Laing fella, he’s been exposed quite a few times for pace.  I’m done pointing out this shit though because I don’t think any of matters any more.  What he offers in possession clearly outweighs any of his defensive frailties I think he might have.  They were minor gripes of mine and I think Klopp must have seen them as well to make the decision he did.  I doubt he will do it again though after that last night.

He is a very very good player already, but still has areas to improve.

So I’m not saying he’s the best RB in the league, the world or what ever.

But that pass to Milner was one of the best passes I’ve seen the 40+ years I’ve been watching football. Unreal that was.

Boswinga, Sagna, O`Shea, Neville, Brown, Arbeloa, Belletti, Pantsil, Corluka, Steinsson are all better right backs than Trent just to mention 10 players on top of my head.

Well, I didn't know you meant of all time, so that kind of moves the goalposts a bit.

It does make me chuckle when people say he's too good to play as a full back, like they see his long term future in midfield or something. Full back is the most important position in the modern game. You want a player of his ability there.

I fucking love his crossfield passes, they tear teams apart.

He's obviously ace at crossing into the box, but he's just as good at finding Robbo on the other side, who happens to be ace at crossing into the box too. Must be a nightmare for teams to play against having to mark and press one side of the pitch and a second later on the opposite side, being stretched all over the place.

That seems to be a reoccurring theme, if a player is good get him away from full back as quick as possible. I always thought we should have tried Gerrard at right back. He would have been the best right back in the world, 20 assists a season and still double digits in goals.

Agreed. It's much harder to find a really good attacking fullback than to find a really good midfielder. At this rate, he could become one of the best of his generation at the position. Why you'd move him away from that beats me.

Gerrard did play at right back and was excellent as usual.
