The Eagles

I like Life in the fast lane.

Joe Walsh should never have joined them though, they were well beneath his level and Hotel California belongs in the 9th circle of Hell, music for deaf smack heads.

This is perhaps the first time our musical tastes have collided. One of my instant 'turn the radio off' songs

The Eagles are singalong party music these days when everyone is pissed and arguing about what they want on next.

First four albums are classics  and the original lineup of Frey, Henley, Meisner and Leadon were simply brilliant. There was some old footage of them on  BBC 4 few months back that was great to watch, Their close harmonies have never been bettered imo,

Hotel California, Joe Walsh onwards never done it for me. Did see them live a few years back at Twickenham and to be fair it was a great gig.

but I shan't be bothering again now Glenn Frey has gone ,

I know, I'm a twat really,  Just because my favourite member of the band has carked it I'm binning them off

I'll also admit to never seeing Queen since Fred checked out

Have Queen really carried on? How does this work. Do they have a wax work of Freddy and play his lyrics over live music?

The Eagles have always baffled me.

“Hotel California” is a classic, but none of their other songs come close. Their catalogue is stuffed full of sugary melodies and harmonies in bland country rock tradition of the  instantly forgettable. “Take it to the limit”, about driving a car at 45mph around a curving bend just about sums them up.

How Joe Walsh, who with “Turn to Stone” and “Rocky Mountain Way” had impeccable rock credentials came to be tied up with this lightweight piffle is one of modern music’s great mysteries.

'One of These Nights' is by far their best song. And that is as pure and perfect pop as you'll ever hear. And there's nothing wrong with that whatsoever.

But yeah, it baffles me when they're touted as one of the best rock bands ever when in essence their 'best' stuff was pure pop.
