The La's is an obvious one & you could make a case for Who's Next by The Who & Machine Head by Deep Purple (although I love some of their other albums too).

 

 

I'd also include The Who Sell out which is a fantastic album and for me is better than Sgt Pepper's (which I've never been a fan of) released the same year.....

 

For me the Stones have only made one truly great album and that's Exile on Main Street.

i think the Roses would may have had better follow-up albums if they hadn't got so caught up in litigation with the record company that basically prevented them from creating a second album. I see The Second Coming as basically a third/fourth album it's just that the previous ones didn't get made to the bands detriment.
