I was born and raised in Selby, have you still family in the area?

Not as far as I'm aware. My grandad died 20 years ago. Everyone else has moved away, sadly.

Selby and Pocklington were the two places my old man grew up in the area.

What is Selby like now?

Pretty shite these days although I’ve not lived there myself for over 30 years but my brother and sister still live there. The area started to decline in the 80’s then quickly went downhill with the closure of the Selby area coalfield. Shame really as growing up there in the 60’s & 70’s it was a great place to live.

Not great, but taken on my phone a couple of years ago, and I always liked it.

Lovely that, its always hard the get the sky to do itself justice on a photograph. That sky reminds me of the sky abpve Liverpool the night we beat the mancs on the way to the title. (I know I know)

Yeah, there was something quite depressing about the place in the early 2000s when I last saw it. High street like something from a zombie film.

We’re you there to get photos of those planes, or there and they happened to be flying over?

I was there to catch anything flying through really. It was a spot known as Great Howe at the top of Thirlmere. There's a few good spots round there like Smaithwaite which is in the shadow of Raven Cragg as well. You get them heading towards you over the water which can make for nice shots.
